Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

MUST POSSESS DOUBLE B LICENSES THROUGH TCEQ TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION

Job Summary:

The Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater treatment plant.  This position operates a city vehicle and is considered a safety-sensitive position.

Specific Duties:

• Supervises personnel assigned to the maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
• Performs the duties of crew members as required.
• Prioritize repairs and maintenance projects to be completed.

• Inspects and maintains treatment plant equipment.
• Conducts quality control samples on water and wastewater.
• Completes and maintains required reports.
• Maintains work areas in an orderly fashion by cleaning, sweeping, etc.
• Monitors the treatment operation, including adjusting flows, chemical input, monitoring gauges, etc.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to  effectively communicate in oral and written communications
• Ability to operate commercial telephones and a two-way radio
• Ability to operate a variety of moderate to light power-driven equipment
• Ability to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
• Ability to perform duties for extended periods in extreme weather
• Ability to maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing, bending, or sitting for extended 

       periods 

• Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, and operating assigned equipment and vehicles
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects and materials up to 100 pounds

Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or Licenses:

• High school diploma or GED

• Possess a minimum Class B Wastewater License
• Possess a minimum Class B Groundwater License
• Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator
• Minimum two years experience in water or wastewater utilities
• Valid Texas Driver’s License
