About this role

Assemble, install, maintain, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Education and/or Experience:

Graduate from high school or general education degree.

Two years of technical training in plumbing systems or university program certificate.

Four to five years related experience and/or training.

Language Skills:

Read and interpret procedures, policies and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Write routine reports and correspondence.

Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, staff, and public.

Mathematical Skills:

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.

Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Alaska driver’s license.

State of Alaska Journeyman’s Plumber License and current Alaska fitness card.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Lift 70 pounds.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

Inupiaq, Language, History & Cultural experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Locate, repair and maintain water, heating and sewage systems in all District facilities.

Complete all preventative maintenance work in a timely manner.

Inspect all contracted repair or new installation.

Estimate cost of plumbing repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead.

Coordinate with the Plant Manager to determine if repair jobs should be contracted.

Extensive travel to villages required.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, in outside weather conditions, and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
