About this role

About the Team

We create and maintain tools (software and systems) used by many teams for critical workloads to help them reliably build and deploy Helpshift products. We own the entire release and build setup and processes at Helpshift. As the Developer Productivity team, our mission is to improve the efficiency, speed, and happiness of the entire engineering organization. We are responsible for everything from build and testing automation to the packaging and release of the final product. We identify bottlenecks across the SDLC, remove friction points, expand our deployment automation, and manage the infrastructure that supports our dev/test environments.

Working with Jenkins, Containerization, Custom Tooling (in Clojure, Python), and Ansible workflows, we influence the solution and business strategy necessary to transform how Helpshift builds software.

About the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead, inspire, and grow the Developer Productivity team. In this role, you will balance technical leadership with people management. You will not just manage tasks; you will shape the vision for Helpshiftʼs developer experience (DevEx). You will collaborate closely with other engineering leaders to understand their friction points, define the roadmap for our CI/CD and infrastructure tooling, and empower your team to build highly scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

If you are passionate about developer advocacy, love optimizing complex systems, and thrive on mentoring high-performing engineers, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • People Leadership & Growth: Mentor, coach, and manage a team of high-performing engineers. Conduct regular 1-on-1s, drive career growth conversations, and foster a culture of ownership, high quality, and continuous learning.
  • Strategic Roadmap & Vision: Define the long-term vision and quarterly roadmaps for developer productivity and platform engineering at Helpshift. Align team goals with overall business and engineering strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Frontend, Backend, QA, and Security engineering leaders to identify SDLC bottlenecks, improve build/test times, and champion modern DevOps/DevEx practices.
  • Technical Guidance & Architecture: Provide technical oversight for the design and implementation of secure CI/CD pipelines, automated testing infrastructure, and distributed build tools. Participate in critical architecture and system design reviews.
  • Operations & Execution: Ensure the reliable operation of backend infrastructure supporting Dev/Test environments. Drive agile processes, manage sprint planning, and ensure project delivery is on time and of high quality.
  • Metrics & Observability: Establish and track key DevOps/DORA metrics (e.g., deployment frequency, lead time for changes, build failure rates) to measure and prove the impact of productivity initiatives
  • 10+ years of total experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering, with 2+ years of experience directly managing or leading engineering teams. Strong technical background in CI/CD automation, Build Systems, and Infrastructure as Code (IaaC) using tools like Jenkins, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Deep understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and securing containerised workloads.
  • Proven experience running and managing infrastructure on cloud platforms, preferably Amazon AWS.
  • Prior experience in setting up systems to capture the developer productivity matrix (exDORA) and optimising it
  • Solid understanding of UNIX-like operating systems (we use Ubuntu) and experience with FOSS monitoring, graphing, and logging tools.
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of shipping complex, cross-team infrastructure initiatives. Outstanding communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills—you can translate developer pain points into clear engineering requirements.

Good to Have

  • Prior experience as an individual contributor writing/debugging code in Python, Shell, Java, or Clojure.
  • Strong opinions, weakly held, on testing strategies (CI integration, test-data management, mocking frameworks).
  • Active involvement in the DevEx or DevOps community.
  • Hybrid setup
  • Worker's insurance
  • Paid Time Offs
  • Other employee benefits to be discussed by our Talent Acquisition team in India.
