About this role

Overview

Fueling Brains Education Services is an Alberta Education-funded Early Childhood Services (ECS) provider supporting children accessing Program Unit Funding (PUF) and Mild/Moderate (MM) funding across multiple Academy locations in Calgary and Strathmore.


This is not a traditional educational assistant role.


Our model blends early intervention, brain-based learning, and multidisciplinary collaboration to create meaningful opportunities for children to develop communication, self-regulation, social-emotional skills, independence, and school readiness.

As a Brain Development Technician, you will work directly with children, educators, therapists, and families to implement individualized intervention strategies within inclusive early learning environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Child Support & Intervention Implementation

  • Implement individualized intervention plans developed by therapists and educational teams for children receiving PUF and Mild/Moderate funding
  • Provide hands-on support throughout children's daily routines and learning experiences
  • Support the development of communication, social-emotional skills, self-regulation, independence, and school readiness
  • Facilitate participation in therapeutic, educational, and play-based activities


2. Student Development & Progress Monitoring

  • Observe, monitor, and document children's progress toward individual goals
  • Collect data and maintain accurate records as required by program and therapy teams
  • Share observations and progress updates with supervisors and multidisciplinary team members
  • Support implementation of recommendations from Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and Teachers


3. Classroom Environment & Student Well-Being

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Support children's emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and participation in daily routines
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive peer interactions
  • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and daily learning activities


4. Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, educational assistants, and families to support children's development
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with children, caregivers, and team members
  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
  • Support consistent implementation of intervention strategies across learning environments


5. Program Support

  • Adapt materials and activities to meet the diverse developmental needs of children
  • Assist with transitions, routines, and daily classroom operations
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture
  • Support program initiatives aligned with Fueling Brains' brain-based learning approach


Required Skills and Qualifications

Education

  • Certificate, Diploma, or post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Human Services, Disability Studies, or a related field is preferred


Experience

  • Minimum one year of experience and/or education related to child development, behaviour support, or early intervention
  • Experience working with children with diverse developmental, behavioural, or learning needs
  • Experience within early childhood, educational, childcare, or therapeutic settings is considered an asset

Work Environment Requirements

  • School and classroom-based role within Fueling Brains Academy locations
  • Active, hands-on environment involving frequent interaction with young children
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Exposure to active classroom environments, including occasional noise and disruptive behaviours
  • Potential exposure to common childhood illnesses and bodily fluids
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and emotional regulation in fast-paced environments
  • Occasional evening or weekend commitments may be required for training or special events


Additional Requirements

  • Valid Alberta Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to travel between Fueling Brains Academy locations (mileage reimbursed)
  • Current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Current Child Intervention Record Check
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification preferred
  • Ability to work a 10-month contract (September–June)
  • Willingness to participate in onboarding and training related to Fueling Brains' educational and intervention model
