Job Overview

The Sr. Estimator plays an essential function in the company and is responsible for accurately estimating the total costs associated with a project. This position works closely with consultants, contractors, accountants, and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis. In addition, the Sr. Estimator in charge of determining the projected time frame needed to complete a project which includes critical factors such as labor needs, materials, budgets, and any potential setbacks.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed conceptual budgets from pre-construction, concept design, schematic design, and design development documents
  • Perform detailed take-offs of all trade
  • Initiate and manage entire bid process (CM and GC) inclusive of preparation of detailed bid packages and assure accurate and proper submissions/proposals by all subcontractors
  • Accurately level all subcontractor bids and review to select the most cost-effective option
  • Review documentation, meet with clients, and inspect the construction site to fully understand what work is required
  • Collect all pertinent documents including property plans, technical drawings, and project specifications
  • Perform risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan
  • Maintain relationships with key vendors and subcontractors
  • Initiate prequalification process for all trade partners
  • Coach and mentor Estimators and Jr. Estimators
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, and subcontractors to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc.
  • Communicate regularly with field team on deliverables and procurement schedules
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Construction Management or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in budgeting commercial interiors, retail, core and shell as well as out of the ground construction projects
  • Aviation estimating experience a plus
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficient with On-Screen Takeoff or other relevant applications
  • Proficient with accounting and project management concepts
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential/proprietary information
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading commercial construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to work well under pressure of bid deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task while focusing on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to value engineer to best meet the goals of the project
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams
