What You'll Do:
The Sr Medical Assistant (Children's National Pediatricians & Associates) performs a variety of moderately complex patient care and administrative activities to assist providers, patients and staff. Assists in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management, including coordinating patient referrals.
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required) and Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Training Program
What You'll Need:
Minimum Work Experience
3 years medical office experience preferably in a pediatric setting (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic math calculations.
Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
Knowledge of medical equipment and medical
terminology. Basic computer skills.
Knowledge of insurance verification and patient flow monitoring.
Good communication skills (written and oral)
and customer service skills.
Ability to train and coach staff.
Experience with electronic medical records.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Certification as a Medical Assistant from a nationally recognized certifying board or agency (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities
Patient Care
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment; clean exam and treatment rooms before and after patient encounter; instruct patient in complex testing requirements and medical procedures.
- Review electronic health record for immunizations, labs and consult; administer vaccines, medications and treatments as prescribed by provider.
- Responsible for the monitoring of Vital Signs and Tracking Changes as necessary.
- Recognizes urgent patient problems and/or emergencies, and addresses the patient's situation with the MD and/or RN.
- Organize and maintain medical supplies and equipment.
- Assist providers with management of patient allergies, medications and history.
Administrative Duties
- Process lab referrals within electronic health records.
- Answer phone calls and respond to patient requests for lab results, prescriptions, immunization history, etc.; oversee the follow-up process for lab results and instructions per provider.
- Perform vaccine inventory, vaccine storage and handling of all vaccine products and reports to assigned staff; complete requests for school and medication forms.
- Provide guidance to other staff members and make recommendations to manager.
- Serve as a resource for patient related communications as defined by PCMH workflow
- Act as a communication liaison to other medical assistants and staff; ensure office policy and procedures are being followed
Patient Flow Design
- Manage staff resources and assignments.
- Train and mentor medical assistant staff.
- Perform vaccine management as relating to loop ordering and reports; ensure appropriate vaccine storage and monitoring processes are followed; act as emergency (back-up) resource for vaccine storage.
- Monitor patient flow and make changes to improve productivity.
- Maintain related patient flow design according to PCMH and Meaningful Use workflow.
Quality Control
- Demonstrate Immunization Protocol Efficiency as required.
- Recognize his/her limitations, and discuss any complications with the proper professional staff member.
Managed Care
- Implement guidelines regarding HIPPA and OSHA regulations.
- Participate and Lead workflow process improvements as related to MU and PCMH.
- Remain knowledgeable of insurances, billing processes, patient care referrals and financial impact.

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual’s combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications.
