Optical Components Test Engineering plays a critical role in enabling reliable, high‑volume manufacturing of Ciena’s optical component technologies. This position partners closely with Research and Development (R&D), manufacturing partners, and cross‑functional teams to deliver robust, automated test solutions that support both sustaining products and new product introduction (NPI). The role offers the opportunity to directly influence product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction through data‑driven test engineering excellence.

How you will make an impact:

  • Support high-volume manufacturing by debugging, maintaining, and enhancing automated test systems for optical components
  • Provide technical insight into test instrument selection and station design
  • Drive capital efficiency through test time reduction, yield improvement, and optimization of test strategies
  • Support failure analysis, root cause identification, and corrective action implementation for components, sub‑systems, and field returns
  • Lead test system replication, transfer, bring‑up, and ongoing support at partner manufacturing sites

    The must haves:
  • 5+ years of experience developing automated test systems and software for production environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in optical or high‑speed electronic test system development
  • MATLAB experience; C# and/or python experience are an asset
  • Strong understanding of optical component testing and manufacturing processes
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional and external partner teams
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills with a clear sense of accountability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent English (Bilingual: English/French is desirable)

  • Extensive test equipment control and automation experience
  • Background in supporting test activities across global manufacturing partners
  • Experience in driving yield improvement initiatives using data analytics
  • Exposure to failure analysis of optical components and sub‑systems

Pay Range:

  • The annual pay range for this position in Ottawa is $94, 100 - $150, 300
  • The annual pay range for this position in Quebec City is $84, 700 - $135, 300

 

 

Ingénierie des tests des composants optiques

L’équipe d’ingénierie des tests des composants optiques joue un rôle essentiel dans la mise en œuvre d’une fabrication fiable et à haut volume des technologies de composants optiques de Ciena. Ce poste collabore étroitement avec les équipes de recherche et développement (R&D) et avec des partenaires manufacturiers afin de fournir des solutions de test automatisées robustes à la fois pour des produits matures et pour des produits en phase d’introduction (NPI). Ce rôle offre l’occasion d’influencer directement la qualité des produits, l’efficacité de la fabrication et la satisfaction des clients grâce à de l’ingénierie de test basée sur des données.

 

Comment vous aurez un impact :

  • Soutenir la fabrication en diagnostiquant, en maintenant et en optimisant les systèmes de test automatisĂ©s pour les composants optiques.
  • Fournir une expertise technique pour la sĂ©lection des instruments de test et la conception des stations de test.
  • Favoriser l’amĂ©lioration continue du rendement des produits, de la durĂ©e des tests et de la rĂ©duction des coĂ»ts
  • Soutenir les analyses de dĂ©faillance, l’identification des causes fondamentales et la mise en Ĺ“uvre d’actions correctives pour les composants, sous-systèmes et retours du terrain.
  • Diriger le transfert, la mise en service et le soutien continu des systèmes de test chez les partenaires manufacturiers.

Exigences essentielles :

  • Plus de 5 ans d’expĂ©rience dans le dĂ©veloppement de systèmes et de logiciels de test automatisĂ©s pour des environnements de production.
  • Expertise dĂ©montrĂ©e dans le dĂ©veloppement de systèmes de test optiques ou Ă©lectroniques Ă  haute vitesse.
  • ExpĂ©rience avec MATLAB; la connaissance de C# et/ou Python est considĂ©rĂ©e comme un atout.
  • Bonne comprĂ©hension des mĂ©thodes d’essai de composants optiques et des processus de fabrication.
  • BaccalaurĂ©at ou maĂ®trise en gĂ©nie Ă©lectrique, informatique, physique de l’ingĂ©nierie ou dans une discipline technique connexe.
  • CapacitĂ© dĂ©montrĂ©e Ă  collaborer efficacement avec des Ă©quipes multidisciplinaires et des partenaires externes.
  • Excellentes aptitudes en analyse, communication et rĂ©solution de problèmes, avec un grand sens des responsabilitĂ©s.

  • Vaste expĂ©rience en contrĂ´le et automatisation d’équipements de test.
  • ExpĂ©rience dans le soutien aux activitĂ©s de test auprès de partenaires manufacturiers mondiaux.
  • ExpĂ©rience dans la mise en Ĺ“uvre d’initiatives d’amĂ©lioration du rendement Ă  l’aide de l’analyse de donnĂ©es.
  • Connaissance de l’analyse de dĂ©faillance des composants et sous-systèmes optiques.
  • Excellentes aptitudes Ă  la communication Ă©crite et orale; anglais courant
  • CapacitĂ© de voyager jusqu’à 10 % du temps, principalement en Asie
