The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

The Recreation Worker will design and deliver programs for all community members (child, youth, adult, elder). As a Recreation Worker at Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), they will help people stay active, improve fitness, and have fun. They are a results-oriented individual who takes a pro-active approach to initiating and following through with a variety of projects.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Developing and maintaining respectful, cooperative working relationships to contribute to the integrated, seamless delivery of services to WLFN children, youth, and families (a ‘Youth’ being defined as ’12-28 years of age’).
  • Develops and directs a variety of dynamic, accessible, and inclusive social/cultural/recreational programs (including, but not limited to joint programming with WLFN Recreation department; educational workshops; on the land learning initiatives) to create a variety of experiences for youth.
  • Instruct and lead youth in registered and drop-in programs as required.
  • Arranging access to external specialized consultation and interventions for children/youth where necessary.
  • Maintaining up-to-date, comprehensive client files, and ensuring the file accurately reflects experiences and progress of children/youth/families and is up to date in accordance with WLFN Policy and Procedures.
  • Applying Secwepemc culture, values, traditions and teachings into policy and programming where possible.
  • Collaborates both internally and externally with various departments to discuss ongoing high-risk or in-need youth.
  • Ensures accuracy, confidentiality, and safekeeping of agency records.
  • Facilitates the ongoing development of individuals through coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing and performance management that fosters their long-term learning and growth.
  • Records statistics evaluates programs and activities at the end of each month.
  • Assists in communication and public awareness efforts for programs and events.
  • Participates in various community support, council, and committee meetings.
  • Reports to, collaborates with and meets with the Recreation Supervisor on a frequent basis. Provides written reports and on-going information and data to the Recreation Supervisor regarding Youth Support Services/Case Files.
  • Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of WLFN.
  • Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
  • Oversees, sorts, and submits financial records within the department.
