 te tūranga | About the role 

As a Ranger in the Twizel team, you will help to maintain and improve visitor facilities and protect key heritage sites across the Mackenzie/Waitaki Basin’s and Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. 

The position will be focussed on: 

  • Maintaining campsites, picnic areas, car parks, toilets, and water systems. 

  • Maintaining back country huts, bridges, and other structures. 

  • Supporting office tasks like data entry, planning, and coordinating field trips. 

  • Assisting the wider teams when required. 

Please note, this role is rostered 5 days per week on a rotating 7-day roster. Overnight trips (up to a week) in remote backcountry locations will be required, with access often by helicopter, boat, or on foot. If successful for the role, you’ll be encouraged to join FENZ/ St. John services as a volunteer responder.

  • Full New Zealand Driver's licence 

  • Physically fit with backcountry experience 

  • Strong health and safety focus 

  • Tech savvy skills and ability to learn new systems 

  • Excellent communications and teamwork skills 

  • Practical problem-solving skills 

Desirable: 

  • Carpentry/ construction experience

  • Experience in maintaining visitor facilities, tracks and structures 

  • Experience and qualifications with use of chainsaws, scrub bars, 4WDS, LUVs and helicopters 

  • A current First Aid certificate.

The salary range for this position is $61,189 - $67,446 with the starting salary of the successful applicant based on their relevant skills and experience.
