Job Overview

This position is responsible for all aspects of budget and financial operations for the Student Affairs Division - a large Cluster within the Main Campus Administrative Units. The incumbent will hold a key position on the Main Campus Administrative Units Finance Team, reporting directly to the Senior Business Manager (“SBM”). He/she has a direct oversight of a Sr. Financial Analyst. Director is responsible for all annual budget activities, including top-down and detailed budget development and forecasting, for monitoring the actual performance of the units against the budget, for financial operations, and for the year-end close activities for the assigned units. The scope of operations include 165 staff members, 860 student workers and support 220 student organizations, 1.1K residential education programs, 5K+ Student events, 250 volunteers in the Center for Social Justice.

In addition, responsibilities include review and oversight of HCM transactions (the incumbent will have a finance partner role and will review and approve transactions in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Senior Finance Manager), planning for and monitoring of the restricted funds and research expenditures as directed by the Senior Finance Director and the CFO of Main Campus. The Director will work with procurement and or accountants on a regular basis.

Work Interactions

The Director for Finance & Ops will report directly to the Senior Business Manager (SBM) for the Administrative Units on Main Campus and will work closely with the SBM on operational, planning and strategic matters of the units he/she is responsible for. The position holder will be in close contact with the Unit Heads that his/her team supports.

This position interacts with many university departments, which requires excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of constituents, such as Deans, Vice Provosts, Department heads, faculty, the Joint Office of Research Administration, Advancement, and various offices under the OCFO, for example, Accounts Payable, Payroll Services, General Accounting, and other. The incumbent works closely with the Provost Office Finance Team.

The Director will regularly collaborate with other Associate Directors, Directors and SBMs from Schools and be part of the Main Campus Financial Operations Working Group. The incumbent will interact with the Campus CFO and other leaders of Main Campus.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. The work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.  Master’s degree in economics, finance, business or accounting is strongly preferred.  A Bachelor’s degree plus substantial experience in closely related fields may substitute for a Master’s degree.
  • 10+ years' of progressive work experience in financial analysis and budgeting in a sophisticated office environment.
  • Relevant financial acumen (budgeting, transactional support, revenue-generating activities, chart of accounts, journals, requisitions, purchase orders, procurement, and travel)
  • Ability to build and utilize financial reports
  • Advanced business analytics skills
  • Ability to support the establishment and management of budgets of $50M+
  • Strong leadership skills coupled with proven team management abilities.
  • Prior experience working with complex teams
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to engage regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including unit leads and administrators across the institution
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; proficiency managing and prioritizing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work with a variety of financial systems, with prior experience preferred in Workday, and Adaptive
  • Ability to interpret the strategic goals and plan for assigned units
  • Revenue and expenditure analysis experience
  • Prior experience with complex financial and longitudinal planning and financial forecasting
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to triage and solve complex challenges and requests
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with a mastery of excel and experience with managing and analyzing large volumes of data
  • Service oriented, professional demeanor and a team orientation is required; i.e. avoiding “that’s not my job”
  • Ability to work well under pressure, in a high paced environment
  • Ability to think outside the box and to solve problems creatively

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$80,429.00 - $157,238.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
