Job Description
 

Gilead is looking for an Executive Director - Gilead Asset Team Leader (GATL) – Inflammation —a role where your work can help advance life‑changing scientific innovation and meaningful patient impact.

Jointly reporting to the Commercial and Development Therapeutic Area Heads, the Gilead Asset Team Leader (GATL) is an enterprise leader responsible for leading the cross-functional asset team and shaping the asset vision, strategic direction, and lifecycle plan (LCP) including across multiple indications and drug combinations.

Serving as the primary liaison for senior leadership within the governance model, the GATL drives collaboration across Gilead, engaging diverse stakeholders involved in the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of an asset, to ensure optimal program execution in alignment with the asset strategy and the LCP. 

This senior role requires a diverse set of experiences across Development and Commercialization functions and relies on a record of achievement for optimizing asset outcomes. This role demands adept navigation of complex programmatic challenges and excellent enterprise-level leadership.

Specific Responsibilities:

As a Gilead Asset Team Leader (GATL), at Gilead you will shape the end-to-end strategy and delivery of critical immunology assets, influencing enterprise decisions from early development through commercialization.

This is a highly visible, enterprise leadership role responsible for aligning cross-functional leaders around a unified asset vision, navigating complexity across multiple programs, and ensuring delivery of high-impact outcomes across the asset lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

Enterprise Asset Strategy & Decision Leadership

  • Define and drive integrated asset strategies spanning development, regulatory, manufacturing, and commercialization

  • Shape lifecycle planning across multiple indications and combination therapies

  • Establish clear decision frameworks, including Go/No-Go milestones and portfolio recommendations

Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment

  • Lead global, matrixed teams without direct authority, aligning Development, Commercial, and Technical functions

  • Create clarity of roles, accountability, and decision-making across the asset team

  • Foster a culture of constructive debate and high-performance collaboration

Execution Excellence & Delivery Accountability

  • Own delivery of asset milestones, ensuring alignment to Target Product Profile (TPP) and Lifecycle Plan (LCP)

  • Partner closely with Project Management to manage timelines, risks, and resources

  • Navigate complex program challenges to maintain momentum and optimize outcomes

Governance & Executive Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison to senior leadership and governance bodies

  • Synthesize cross-functional insights into clear recommendations and strategic trade-offs

  • Communicate program health, risks, and opportunities with transparency and impact

Therapeutic Area & Portfolio Influence

  • Collaborate with Therapeutic Area Heads and Business Development to shape broader disease area strategies

  • Contribute to portfolio prioritization and investment decisions

  • Ensure ongoing scientific, clinical, and commercial viability of programs

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Established clear, aligned asset strategies across immunology programs

  • Achieved strong cross-functional engagement and decision clarity

  • Delivered key milestones on time with proactive risk mitigation

  • Built credibility with senior leadership through high-quality strategic insights

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience

OR

PhD and Twelve Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business discipline required; advanced degrees such as PhD, MD, or MBA highly preferred. For some GATL roles, an MD or PhD may be prioritized.

  • 12+ years’ biopharmaceutical industry experience preferred, with at least 8 years in relevant roles within biotech/pharmaceutical organizations.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the overall drug development process, with experience in commercial launches and program/asset strategy teams strongly desired.

The salary range for this position is: $302,005.00 - $390,830.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
