We partner with families facing significant stressors, including trauma, behavioral health challenges, and involvement with the child welfare system, to provide compassionate, evidence-based support that strengthens families and improves outcomes for children.


We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Parenting Therapist to join our Parenting Academy team. This position works closely with families involved with DCYF, including parents with open dependency cases, to provide intensive parenting support, therapeutic services, and evidence-based interventions designed to increase family stability and reduce the risk of out-of-home placement.

What You’ll Do

As a Parenting Therapist I, you will provide family-centered, strengths-based services that help caregivers build safer, healthier, and more connected relationships with their children.


You will work directly with families involved in the child welfare system, often navigating complex challenges including trauma, mental health concerns, behavioral difficulties, substance use recovery, domestic violence, and reunification planning.


Core Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based parenting interventions, including:
    • Family Preservation Services (FPS)
    • Triple P (Positive Parenting Program)
    • Incredible Years
  • Deliver parent coaching and therapeutic support in home, office, and community settings
  • Manage an active caseload of families referred through DCYF, providing consistent, trauma-informed parenting and therapeutic support services
  • Deliver services in alignment with grant and contract requirements while maintaining fidelity to evidence-based practice models and program standards
  • Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor progress toward family goals
  • Support caregivers in building skills related to:
    •  Positive discipline
    • Emotional regulation
    • Attachment and connection
    • Child development
    • Behavior management
    • Communication and co-regulation
  • Provide dyadic and family-focused interventions that strengthen parent–child relationships
  • Collaborate closely with DCYF social workers, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners
  • Connect families with community resources and supportive services
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation
  • Participate in ongoing supervision, consultation, and training in evidence-based practices


Compensation & Benefits

Compensation

  • Starting wage: $30.00/hour
  • Additional $1.00/hour bilingual pay for Spanish or Mixteco fluency
  • Compensation based on experience and qualifications

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with children and families impacted by trauma
  • Knowledge of child development and attachment
  • Familiarity with DCYF systems and dependency work
  • Experience providing parenting support or family therapy is a plus
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive care
  • Ability to engage families with empathy, respect, and nonjudgment
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in community-based settings


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or related field
  • WA State associate-level licensure (LMHCA, LMFTA, or SWAIC), or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout Whatcom and Skagit Counties
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Fluent English required
  • Spanish or Mixteco bilingual skills strongly preferred
