Director of Engineering

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead and scale Buildern’s engineering organization as we continue to grow. You will work closely with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and Leadership to improve execution, strengthen engineering processes, and help deliver a reliable, scalable, and high-quality product.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical judgment with operational leadership and organizational scaling experience. You should be comfortable leading engineering teams, improving development processes, building strong engineering managers, and helping teams execute at a high level.

Buildern’s platform is built primarily with modern JavaScript technologies and cloud infrastructure. Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems is preferred but not required.

What You Will Do

• Lead and scale the engineering organization while building a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Define and execute the engineering strategy aligned with company goals and product roadmap
• Partner closely with Product and Design to deliver high-quality features and improvements in a predictable and efficient way
• Improve engineering execution, planning, prioritization, and delivery processes across teams
• Establish and refine development workflows, engineering standards, and best practices
• Drive improvements in system reliability, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability
• Oversee architecture and technical decision-making across the platform
• Help reduce technical debt while maintaining product development velocity
• Collaborate closely with QA and DevOps to improve testing, release processes, observability, and incident response
• Monitor and improve engineering metrics related to quality, delivery, reliability, and team efficiency
• Mentor, develop, and grow engineering managers, team leads, and senior engineers
• Help engineering managers improve leadership, execution, communication, accountability, hiring, and career development practices
• Build scalable organizational structures and leadership processes that support long-term engineering growth
• Improve cross-functional communication and alignment between Engineering, Product, Support, and Leadership

What You Will Bring

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 3–5+ years in engineering leadership roles
• Proven experience leading and scaling engineering teams in a B2B SaaS or technology company
• Experience managing and developing engineering managers and technical leaders
• Strong technical background with the ability to guide architecture and engineering decisions
• Experience building and operating scalable, high-performance systems
• Strong organizational and operational leadership skills
• Experience improving engineering execution, delivery processes, and development workflows
• Strong people leadership skills with a focus on mentorship, accountability, and team development
• Proven ability to build healthy engineering organizations with strong leadership, ownership, and career growth
• Ability to balance short-term execution with long-term technical strategy
• Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and Leadership teams
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to align technical decisions with business goals
