About the Position | Te Mahi

Support work is fun, people-facing, challenging, but very rewarding. Supporting people in the community is more than a job; it is an opportunity to provide person-led invaluable services that maximises independence and aspirations of the people we support.


Responsibilities may Include:

  • Assisting with personal cares (showering, bathing)
  • Assisting with household management and meal preparation
  • Assisting with accessing the community
  • Bowel, Bladder, and Catheter cares
  • Medication support
  • Moving and handling hoists and manual transfers


Job Location: Riverton, Southland


Employment Type: Part-Time

We offer a range of employment opportunities including casual, part-time, and full-time positions, which will be discussed further during the recruitment process.


Days of Work: As this is community-based work, rotating rosters would be involved including AM, PM, and weekend work. Your preferred hours of work can be discussed during the recruitment process.


The duration of these hours may vary, ranging from shorter to longer periods, depending on the specific needs of the people we support.

You are a friendly, social, and compassionate person who loves engaging with others and building meaningful connections. There are many responsibilities associated with being a support worker which can be challenging and fulfilling. It is rewarding when you are part of the support that enables a person to live their best lives in the community.


The candidate would have (Candidate Pre-Requisites):

  • Ideally prior personal care experience is preferred, but it is not essential
  • Experience working with children (this may be in education, as a nanny, or in other environments)
  • A Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification is beneficial and those looking to enter the healthcare sector will also be considered (comprehensive training can be provided)
  • Flexibility and reliability to work on a rotating roster
  • Access to a reliable car and ability to drive independently (a full New Zealand Driver's License is a must)
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand is a must

  • Pay Band: $24.73 - $30.78 per hour (This is based on the Pay Equity Settlement 2017 – hourly pay rates based on equivalency of Healthcare Qualifications assessed under Pay Equity).
