Job Summary

The Sr. Accountant, Construction Accounting will play a key role in supporting the accounting and financial reporting of construction and development activities for our ResiBuilt Homes platform, including helping to build and scale a new accounting function within Invitation Homes. This role will contribute to the design and implementation of processes, controls, and reporting frameworks to support the rapidly expanding platform. Responsibilities include applying U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition considerations under ASC 606 where applicable, and delivering timely, accurate financial insights to internal stakeholders and leadership.

The role will serve as a trusted business partner by providing clear, reliable financial insights and communicating results to key stakeholders. The Sr. Accountant, Construction Accounting, will also prepare detailed accounting analyses that support precise and timely actuals reporting for internal teams and external stakeholders. The associate will possess full cycle accounting experience, strong organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, and an understanding of U.S. GAAP. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a dynamic, evolving environment with an emphasis on building scalable processes from the ground up.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive month‑end and ongoing accounting activity by preparing journal entries, including allocations, reclasses, and accruals, as well as completing accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support construction and development accounting, including tracking project costs, capitalizing construction-in-progress (CIP), and coordinating project close-out and placement into service.
  • Partner with Construction and Development teams to monitor project budgets, committed costs, and variances, while ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in establishing and improving accounting processes, policies, and internal controls to support a newly developing accounting function.
  • Apply accounting guidance related to real estate development, capitalization, and cost allocation methodologies.
  • Develop an understanding of revenue recognition requirements under ASC 606 and apply guidance to applicable transactions.
  • Participate in system implementations, process automation, and reporting enhancements to scale the accounting function alongside business growth.
  • Prepare and review project-level financial reporting and analytics for management.
  • Lead monthly analyses for assigned income statement accounts, providing clear variance and month-over-month trend explanations while proactively addressing issues as they arise.
  • Prepare wire payment requests as needed and collaborate with Accounts Payable to ensure proper general ledger coding of payments as applicable.
  • Uphold company policies, procedures, and controls, promptly identifying inconsistencies or issues for management review.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and initiatives as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Understanding of U.S. GAAP, with the ability to apply principles confidently in a dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline is required. CPA or CPA candidate a plus.  
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting; ability and willingness to learn complex accounting standards, such as ASC 606.
  • Background in real estate, construction, or a large public company environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Yardi, Procore, or BuildTopia a plus.

  • Hands‑on approach with a willingness to dive into details to ensure accuracy and execution.
  • Demonstrated success working independently as well as in a collaborative, team‑focused environment.

  • Ability to work in office on a regular and consistent basis to conform to team requirements; overtime may be required for this position.

Physical and Mental Demands

This position will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The position may also entail light lifting of supplies and materials occasionally, up to and including 20 pounds in addition to reaching, stooping, standing, and walking. This position requires the ability to talk, hear, compare, compute, compile, copy, analyze, coordinate, synthesize, negotiate, and communicate. Work Environment

Standard office working environment that may be busy and noisy at times.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is: $67,875.00 - $117,650.00, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable employment laws.
