You:

We are seeking a Staff Image Quality Engineer to tune ISP pipelines for robotic endoscopy and to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of objective and subjective image quality (IQ) metrics as well as algorithms for camera pipelines. You will own algorithm development, IQ evaluation methodology, and tuning validation across benchtop and in-procedure data—partnering with cross functional teams and surgeons to deliver consistent, measurable imaging performance. The work focuses on endoscopic-specific challenges and stringent latency and reliability requirements in a safety-critical environment.

Performance Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end ISP tuning for robotic endoscopy and drive tuning changes from concept through verification and release.

  • Develop and prototype image processing algorithms for endoscopic video and work with cross-functional teams to implement and optimize them in the production pipeline.

  • Define, implement, and maintain objective IQ metrics and KPIs aligned to product requirements.

  • Build a repeatable subjective IQ evaluation and correlate subjective outcomes to objective measurements.

  • Lead regular IQ reviews, communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering leadership and program stakeholders.

  • Develop, enhance and maintain tools and test setups for ISP tuning and objective IQ measurements.

  • Create and scale automation for IQ performance testing, metric computation, and report generation to enable fast tuning iteration and release gating.

  • Drive IQ root-cause investigations and isolate issues across sensor, optics, ISP blocks, firmware, and algorithm interactions; propose and validate fixes.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams and suppliers to set IQ requirements.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Minnium B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Imaging Science, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8+ years (or equivalent) experience tuning ISPs and delivering image quality improvements for camera products.

  • Strong understanding of imaging fundamentals: optics, sensors (CMOS), noise sources, color science, and Image Signal Processing algorithms.

  • Hands-on experience defining objective IQ metrics and designing subjective evaluations; demonstrated ability to correlate and reconcile the two.

  • Proficiency with data analysis and scripting (C++ and Python preferred) and familiarity with IQ measurement tools and workflows.

  • Practical experience with image processing libraries and workflows (e.g., OpenCV) and building visualization/dashboards to communicate IQ results.

  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and experience collaborating with vendors/partners on camera modules, sensors, lenses, and calibration.

  • Familiarity with Linux

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Imaging Science, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Familiarity with medical device quality systems and design controls (e.g., risk management, change control).
