Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Power Electronics


The Opportunity 

The Colorado School of Mines, a public R1 research university focused on applied science and engineering, is excited to announce a tenure-track faculty position in Power Electronics at the department of Electrical Engineering. 
 

This position is an integral part of Mines’ strategic effort to grow in areas where we already have significant strengths. Mines is a great place to engage in education and research in all areas related to our Earth, Energy and Environment mission.
 

This tenure-track position is anticipated to begin in August 2026. Qualified candidates with research specialization in power electronics and advanced energy systems are encouraged to apply. 
 

We seek candidates who are excited to share in our mission to address the challenges of creating a sustainable global society by educating the next generation of scientists and engineers.  Successful applicants can also collaborate through joint projects and shared students with the nearby National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) also based in Golden, Colorado. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop a strong active externally funded research program that leads to scholarly publications,

  • Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate and graduate students in traditional, hybrid, and online platforms demonstrating teaching excellence and high-quality and high impact teaching pedagogy. 

  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Establish and/or maintain a quality publication record.

  • Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.

  • Collaborate across campus and contribute to service in the areas of Power Electronics Systems and Advanced Energy Systems. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in a closely related discipline from an accredited program by the time the appointment begins.

  • Experience in academic, research lab, and/or industry and notable accomplishments in a related field.

  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, teaching, and student mentorship. 

  • Evidence or potential of interdisciplinary collaboration or engagement with power electronics.

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Mines consists of 16 full-time faculty, hosts a thriving research program, and strives to produce leaders who serve the profession, the global community, and society. Students attain technical expertise while completing coursework and projects reflective of modern technology trends. Students consider the broader impacts of engineering solutions on society and human lives. Fundamental and applied engineering research in power and renewable energy, data sciences and control systems, and RF and wireless communications are offered which support the university’s mission of “earth, energy, and environment.” At the undergraduate level, the department focuses specialty areas on antennas and wireless communications, information and system sciences, integrated circuits and electronics, and power and energy systems. At the graduate level, the department provides educational and research opportunities in three selected topical areas: 1) compressive sensing and data analysis, 2) energy systems and power electronics, and 3) antennas and wireless communications. Both undergraduate and graduate programs are characterized by strong ties with industrial partners (locally and nationally) that provide resources for students, laboratories, research projects, and ultimately career paths for our students. Total Rewards & Salary Rate
Assistant Professor:  $85,903 - $121,562

Mines takes into consideration a combination of the candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion, and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary rate for potential new employees.

Research Statement: Candidates should describe how their research relates to and complements research activities and expertise at Mines, its expected scholarly and societal impact, its relevance to Mines’ goals (e.g., earth, energy, and environment), and current or future connections to industry and/or opportunities for entrepreneurship. The statement should cover both the candidate's history of successful research as well as their plans for future research at Mines, and their plans for obtaining external funding for that future research.
