Department Details

The critical care transport team includes Critical Care Paramedics, Registered Nurses, and Emergency Medical Technicians – Basic and Advance. This teams provides care and management of patients of all ages and acuity in a mobile environment for interfacility transports. Patient care is determined on patient needs, acuity, assessment, and written/protocol orders under the direction of a medical provider. Our team is dedicated to providing extraordinary care to patients throughout their transport and beyond.

This position requires:
* One year of EMS experience.
* Possession of a current applicable state Paramedic license.Β  Based on location, NREMT and multiple state licenses may be required.
* Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as verified through appropriate licensing agency. Must meet the driving requirements and criteria acceptable to MCHS's insurer.
* Critical Care Paramedic Certification awarded by the State of licensure within one year of hire and eligibility to take course for experienced paramedics or within three years for new paramedics.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
* AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) by AAP within six months of hire.
* Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC), Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO), or Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) within two years of hire.

Summary

Lead Paramedics help provide advanced medical care to patients. Individuals must have the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation.

Job Description

Paramedics may need to assist and give direction to additional EMS Responders at the scene and/or during transport. In addition to the Paramedic responsibilities, the Lead Paramedic will be the key contact for EMS while on scene. The individual will help provide support for management and staff. The Lead Paramedic will assist with monitoring productivity and tracking Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This individual will also assist management in the EMS Operations which will include but not limited to; assisting with keeping up with regulations, licensing, staffing, staff education, equipment maintenance, finance, and quality assurance as needed.

The Lead Paramedic will act as a formal resource for the EMS staff. Individuals will assist with patient care in the receiving facility; lifting and moving patients as required. Physical activities include but not limited to will require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Paramedics should attend training classes to maintain national certification, state licensure, and keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge. Provide welcoming and educational environment for students and complete any academic assessments in a timely manner. Depending on location of position, work hours will vary depending on patient needs.

This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Education Details

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred.Β 

Experience Details

A minimum of two years of experience as a paramedic in an Ambulance setting. Must have a thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices and techniques, knowledge of how various equipment such as a monitor or defibrillator work and how to troubleshoot problems that may arise.

License/Certification Details
Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must hold national registry status at a Paramedic level. Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to have a state license.

Additional licensures as required depending upon state; Paramedic (PAR) Certification, National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS)100, 200, and 700 completed and continued education hour's as mandated by accreditation. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent, advanced version for paramedics, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred depending on location. Additional training provided/workshops and staff meetings are to be attended as per policy. Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record.
