Job Description:

The Senior Director of Provider and Practice Administration provides hospital-wide operational oversight and leadership for all assigned clinical practices, service lines, and provider networks. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, this role drives the execution of financial, quality, and clinical access benchmarks. The Senior Director acts as a vital liaison between physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and hospital administration to cultivate a collaborative, high-performing practice environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Formulate long-term strategic plans to drive service line development and practice growth across the region.
  • Design provider alignment strategies that enhance provider engagement, reduce burnout, and optimize the utilization of clinical staff.
  • Lead clinical transformation initiatives, directing organizational change management efforts to adopt modern care delivery models.
  • Cultivate high-touch provider relationships, aligning the distinct operational needs of specialized pediatric physicians and providers with hospital business objectives.
  • Manage provider workforce planning, leading recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for pediatric specialists and APPs.
  • Oversee medical staff governance, ensuring tight adherence to hospital by laws and specialized credentials.
  • Manage credentialing and medical staff services, ensuring seamless onboarding and compliance with medical staff bylaws.
  • Manage GME/UME programs/contracts and clinical integration of those students within all departments.
  • Maintain and remain compliant with ACGME and POSNA program accreditation for the orthopedic fellowship.
  • Serve as the department liaison for former, current and future fellows, visiting professors, summer interns and international visitors.
  • Initiate, manage and reconcile external contracts for provider services with partner organizations.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration, building productive working relationships between independent physicians, employed providers, and nursing and operational teams.
  • Maximize revenue cycle performance, partnering with billing teams to ensure precise orthopedic charge capture, coding accuracy, and clean claim submissions.
  • Manage productivity models, analyzing Relative Value Units (wRVUs) and financial trends to advise practice leadership on resource allocation.
  • Oversee planning and implementation of scientific sessions including the CME accreditation and hosting of programs.
  • Manage departmental support staff, budgets and other work as assigned.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field is required.
  • Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, or MPH) is highly preferred.
  • Professional Certifications such as Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) or Certified Ambulatory Surgery Center Administrator (CASC) are heavily favored.

Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive operational leadership experience within a hospital outpatient department, large surgical group, or ASC setting.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience managing orthopedic, pediatric, or surgical specialty practice lines.
  • Demonstrated success operating within an Epic-based environment, with a proven ability to leverage the EHR for operational efficiency.
  • Proven track record of building trusted, collaborative relationships with specialized surgical physicians.
  • Pediatric Healthcare Fluency: Understanding of family-centered care principles, pediatric patient safety, and unique sub-specialty referral pathways.
  • Advanced Financial & Analytic Skills: Mastery of wRVU tracking, orthopedic charge capture, and surgical utilization metrics.
