JOB PURPOSE: This position handles and/or assists with the following responsibilities with the Football program: defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and strength and conditioning program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Department Chair/Athletics Director, the Assistant Coach of Football performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
- Organization and implementation of practice plans and instruction.
- Developing competition-day strategies and tactical planning.
- Assessing and recruiting potential student athletes.
- Assessing competition sites and creating scouting reports.
- Camp and clinics operations.
- Supporting player communication and feedback.
- Overseeing team equipment.
- Assisting with the management of social media accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required.
- Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
- Experience: Collegiate coaching or playing experience is required. Experience with effective leadership, communication, coaching, and recruiting skills is preferred. Familiar with, and work to remain compliant with college, SCIAC, and NCAA DIII rules and procedures.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills, and abilities not listed below.
Deploy professional skills in collegiate coaching, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic interests.
- Possess effective leadership, communication, and coaching skills.
- Is knowledgeable of organization, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments.
Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software. Use assigned technology/devices/equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy, and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s/department’s annual goals.
Use strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.
ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT DUTIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:
- Serve as home contest manager
- Work alongside the Asst AD for Operations and Events
- Opportunities to work alongside athletics communications
- Assist with club sports
- Assist with oversight of the Athletic Performance Center
- Assist with the Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Wellness
- Serve on department committees
REQUIRED HOURS AND ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position. The hourly rate for this role is $16.90 per hour, working 15-20 hours per week, depending on the competitive season. Weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. Must be willing to work extensive weekend and evening hours.
