Job Description Legal Solutions Consultant – Government
About this role
Legal Solutions Consultant – Government
About the Role
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced government/public sector lawyer to step into a dynamic client-facing role, using your legal expertise to help shape how public sector organisations and UK courts modernise the way they deliver legal services in applying AI and legal technology.
You won't be writing code, working in IT/engineering. Instead, you'll be the legal expert in the room – the person who understands the pressures, workflows and challenges of public sector legal practice from the inside and who can show government legal professionals how the right technology can genuinely transform their work.
Working closely with Thomson Reuters' sales teams, you'll act as a trusted advisor to government legal teams and courts, helping them understand how tools like CoCounsel Legal, Westlaw, Practical Law and HighQ can address their real-world challenges. You'll guide organisations through the process from initial conversation to solution design, making sure every interaction is informed, credible and grounded in genuine legal understanding.
What You'll Be Doing
- Acting as the legal subject matter expert throughout the client engagement process, helping government and public sector clients identify their needs and understand how technology can address them
- Partnering with sales teams to design and propose tailored solutions that genuinely fit the client's legal practice
- Delivering engaging presentations, product demonstrations and workshops to legal teams at all levels
- Leading proof of concept evaluations and trials, guiding clients through the process with confidence and clarity
- Contributing to responses to RFPs and RFIs, bringing your legal knowledge to bear on proposals
- Speaking at webinars and public events as a credible voice on legal innovation in the public sector
- Staying current with policy, regulatory changes and sector developments so you can lead informed, authoritative conversations with clients
- Supporting colleagues internally by sharing your knowledge of public sector legal practice and helping the wider team understand the context in which their clients operate
About You
- You're a qualified lawyer with 3–5 years of experience working in government or the wider public sector, and you're ready for something different.
- You don't need to be a technology expert – what matters is that you understand the legal landscape public sector organisations are operating in
- Have strong client-facing and presentation skills and enjoy explaining ideas clearly
- Are genuinely curious about how technology is changing legal practice
- Have a growth mindset and an appetite to keep learning
- Have a consultative, problem-solving mindset – you listen carefully and find solutions that genuinely fit
Why This Role?
For a government/public sector lawyer looking for a new challenge, this role offers something genuinely compelling: the chance to use your hard-won legal expertise in a completely new context, to work with a globally recognised legal technology brand and to play a meaningful role in how government/public sector legal services evolve. No two days will be the same and the impact of your work will be felt across organisations and courts across the UK.
