About the Role

As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will take a senior leadership role within the Berlin office, acting as a technical authority across mechanical building services design.

You will be responsible for leading the mechanical discipline across complex, multi-sector projects from early concept design through to construction and handover. This role combines technical excellence with leadership, client engagement, and commercial responsibility.

You will also play a key role in developing engineering capability within the team and shaping mechanical design standards across the office.


What You Will Do

In this senior role, you will be trusted with significant responsibility and autonomy. You will:

  • Lead mechanical engineering design across multiple concurrent projects
  • Act as the technical authority for mechanical building services within the team
  • Oversee design delivery from concept through detailed design, construction, and handover
  • Develop mechanical system strategies aligned with client briefs, performance targets, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key technical advisor
  • Provide technical governance and quality assurance across all mechanical project outputs
  • Lead coordination with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and external stakeholders
  • Review and approve contractor submissions, technical designs, and installation methodologies
  • Oversee project budgets, resource planning, and commercial performance of mechanical packages
  • Ensure compliance with relevant European, German, and international mechanical standards
  • Drive energy efficiency, sustainability, and low-carbon design strategies across projects
  • Lead site inspections, technical audits, and ensure design intent is maintained through construction
  • Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, supporting technical and professional growth
  • Contribute to business development, bids, and technical proposals
  • Support strategic development of the mechanical discipline within the Berlin office


Your Experience

To be considered for this role, you should have:


Essential

  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience in mechanical building services engineering within a consultancy environment
  • Proven experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary building projects in Germany
  • Strong track record in client-facing and project leadership roles in German
  • Experience managing design teams and mentoring engineers according to German Standards and building codes
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, fire fighting and plumbing services
  • Ability to manage technical delivery, commercial performance, and project risk according to local market requirements and client expectations
  • Proficiency in key design tools such as:
    • AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks
    • Nova AVA
    • LiNear, MagiCAD, Solar Computer -or equivalent thermal modelling tools
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills


Desirable

  • Masters Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Experience delivering projects across Data Center, Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, or Hospitality sectors
  • Strong understanding of energy efficiency, low-carbon design, and building performance principles
  • Familiarity with European and German mechanical design standards and regulations
  • Experience contributing to business development or bid support activities
