Job Summary:
Xylem GCC Vadodara / Chennai campus is searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support and enhance Xylem’s mechanical product portfolio for global water Treatment Product portfolio. The role primarily focuses on sustaining engineering, value engineering/VA-VE, and new product development (NPD) to ensure design robustness, manufacturability, cost-optimization, and product competitiveness. Engineer will lead complex design enhancements, manage engineering change processes, drive problem-solving initiatives, collaborate with global stakeholders, and promote continuous improvement. This position is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented engineer passionate about product performance and innovation.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

• Lead sustaining engineering tasks including engineering change requests, drawing updates, and processing documentation.
• Drive VA/VE initiatives to achieve cost savings, material optimization, and performance improvements.
• Support and contribute to New Product Development (NPD) and technology upgrade projects — early concept design through manufacturing release.
• Develop detailed 3D/2D CAD models, GD&T drawings, tolerance stack-ups, BoMs, and related manufacturing documentation.
• Conduct DFMEA, DFM, DFA, prototype validation support, and technical reviews.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Procurement and Global Design Centers.
• Ensure adherence to global engineering standards, compliance, and configuration management practices.

Must Have:

• Expertise in any CAD Software (solid modelling, detailing, surfacing, GD&T). (Preferred- Autodesk Inventor)
• Know-how of manufacturing processes — casting, machining, injection molding, surface coating
• Ability to independently manage design tasks with accountability and milestone ownership.

Good to Have:  

• Understanding of industrial products & various manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of GD&T, DFM & DFMEA and familiarity with Autodesk Vault.
• Influential interpersonal skills & continues learning mindset.
• Adaptability to work for cross-functional/culture and time zones.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams and regions.

Qualifications:

• 4-Year bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized university.
• 0 - 3 years’ relevant experience in product design, sustaining engineering, and VA/VE projects.
