On-Site Operations Manager (Exploration)

With active operations in Canada and Europe on a variety of projects ranging from early-stage greenfield through to resource definition drill programs and development activities, CMG is looking to add to an on-site Operations Manager to its team for a large exploration program located in the Yukon. Reporting to senior CMG management and the Clients’ Director of Operations, the Operations Manager will be responsible for all field operations and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety procedures.
Candidates do not need to be a Geologist to succeed in this role, but will work closely with the Director of Operations, Senior Geologist and Sustainability team to ensure safe and effective project completion. This role is mainly field based and requires around 70% of time to be on site during the field season, with a flexible location within reason from their head office in Vancouver. The role will require both high-level and detailed hands-on work.
Responsibilities
- Managing the onsite health and safety programs
- Supervising regulatory compliance including wildlife, fuel, and waste management protocols
- Scheduling of site staff, transportation needs
- Scheduling of supply aircraft, ground expediting and fuel providers
- Ordering and inventory management
- Cost tracking, cost control and daily/weekly reporting
- Personnel orientation and training
- Daily contractor briefings
- Management of all on-site personnel and activities
- Contractor and contract staff management (drilling, construction, geo-technicians, aviation)
- Maintaining and building relationships with community and third-party stakeholders
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 – 7 years' experience with remote northern mineral exploration or mining operations, or similar experience in project execution/management where remote personnel were required
- Experience with exploration site logistics and set up, from pad building to camp construction
- Demonstrated experience of effectively leading people and teams
- Ability to mentor, provide guidance and motivate others
- Lateral thinker who can strategically schedule tasks for optimal workflow
- Valid BC Class 5 (or equivalent) driver’s license

The position will be a field-based position with fly-in/fly-out access. Rotations will be between 3-4 weeks on site with 1-2 weeks off.
