About this role

Safety & Fleet Manager

Location: South St Paul, MN
Company: Bonfe

Protect Our People. Own the Standard. Lead From the Front.

At Bonfe, safety isn’t a checkbox, it’s a core part of how we operate. We’re looking for a high-accountability leader who will take full ownership of safety and fleet operations across a growing, fast-paced home service business.

This is not a sit-behind-the-desk role. You’ll be in the field, responding to incidents, coaching teams, and holding the line on safety standards every single day.

If you’re looking for a low-pressure or purely administrative role, this is not it.

What You’ll Own

Safety Leadership & Compliance

  • Lead and continuously improve all company-wide safety programs
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, and all applicable regulations
  • Conduct regular job site visits, ride-alongs, and safety audits
  • Drive a culture of accountability, not just awareness

Incident Response (Critical Function)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all injuries and vehicle accidents
  • On-call 24/7 for incident response (outside of approved PTO)
  • Lead investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Partner directly with workers’ comp carriers, adjusters, and insurance providers
  • Own all documentation, reporting, and follow-through

Training & Risk Reduction

  • Build and deliver ongoing safety training programs
  • Identify unsafe behaviors and coach or correct immediately
  • Maintain accurate reporting and safety records
  • Work with leadership to enforce standards

Fleet Management

  • Oversee performance, maintenance, and compliance of company fleet
  • Ensure all vehicles are safe, operational, and inspection-ready
  • Manage preventative maintenance schedules and repairs
  • Track utilization, costs, and replacement planning
  • Support vehicle purchasing and upfitting decisions

Technology & Telematics

  • Manage GPS, dash cams, and driver monitoring systems
  • Use data to coach drivers and reduce risk
  • Build reporting dashboards for leadership visibility

What Success Looks Like

  • Measurable reduction in workplace injuries and vehicle accidents
  • Decreased workers’ compensation claims and insurance costs
  • High engagement and completion in safety training
  • Improved driver behavior and fleet efficiency

Non-Negotiable Requirements

Experience

  • 3–7+ years of leadership experience in field service, construction, or trades
  • Direct experience managing workplace injuries, accidents, and workers’ comp claims
  • Experience with fleet operations or vehicle management strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and safety compliance

Capabilities

  • Comfortable handling high-pressure, real-time incident response
  • Proven ability to hold teams accountable (not just influence)
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through
  • Tech-savvy and able to learn systems quickly

Work Expectations

  • Primarily onsite and in the field (not a remote role)
  • 24/7 availability for emergencies (outside of PTO)
  • Will require early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends
  • Expected to be visible, hands-on, and engaged with field teams

Why This Role Matters

This role directly protects our employees, our customers, and our reputation.
Your impact will be felt across every department—reducing risk, improving operations, and ensuring we deliver at the highest level.

Who Should NOT Apply

  • Candidates without leadership experience in a field environment
  • Candidates who are uncomfortable being on-call or handling emergencies
  • Candidates looking for a compliance-only or administrative safety role

Apply If You’re Ready To:

  • Take full ownership of safety across a growing company
  • Make tough calls and hold people accountable
  • Be the person the company relies on when things go wrong
