About this role

Overview


RiverFlow Dredging is seeking a DutyEngineer with a demonstrated ability to manage assigned duties promptly and efficiently. This position will be based on the RiverFlow Spirit, a trailing suction hopper dredger that will commence operations in the Fraser River in June 2026.


Duties & Responsibilities


The Duty Engineer’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reading the Chief Engineer's Standing orders;
  • Monitoring and recording fuel levels of the day tank and settling tank;
  • Monitoring and recording levels in dirty water tanks, sludge tanks and main engine sump tanks;
  • Performing a general check on machineries (oil/water level, temperatures and pressure);
  • Draining water from starting air bottles and air systems;
  • Draining water/sludge accumulated on F.O. daily tanks;
  • Documenting and reporting incidents, repairs, failures, use of spare parts and special activities;
  • Taking over running watch duties;
  • Performing repairs and tasks as directed by the Chief Engineer; and
  • Executing and supervising tasks as ordered by the Chief Engineer.

The Duty Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer and/or the Second Engineer.


Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies


  • Certificate of Competency
    • Minimum-Fourth-Class Engineer, Motor Ship
  • Marine Medical Certificate
  • Certificate of Proficiency in STCW Basic Safety
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Marine Advanced First Aid
  • Ship management practices taught using a propulsive plant simulator
  • Eligible to work in Canada


Working Conditions


  • 12-hour days with overtime as required
  • Unionized position with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild
