About this role

Job Summary: Under direction of the SILP Coordinator 2, the Community Support Worker is responsible for delivering services to individuals living independently under the Supported Independent Living Program. The C.S.W. supports adults with disabilities to function more independently in their homes and in the community. Deliver one on one and group activities that support the development of life skills. Evening and/or weekend work is often required. Activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness.

 

Education, Training and Experience

·         Community Support Worker Certificate or equivalent education and experience

·         Three month’s experience delivering similar services

·         Experience working independently with individuals with disabilities

·         Experience in group process and facilitation techniques and in a community living setting

·         WCB approved First Aid and CPR certification

·         Class 5 driver license and own vehicle

·         Training in mental health and addictions an asset

 

 

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

·         Demonstrated ability to teach skills, provide individual client support, and leadership

·         Knowledge of theory, values and practices in community living

·         Effective interpersonal communication skills

·         Demonstrated ability to work alone and unsupervised, as well as part of a team

·         Demonstrated exceptional time and general management skills

·         Basic computer skills preferably experience with Microsoft Office

·         To advocate for individuals and families so they obtain needed support

·         To teach individuals and families self-advocacy skills

·         To advocate for support and change within the systems that affect participants and their families

·         Support individuals to find and maintain housing

·         Empathy, warmth, and understanding

·         Ability to work effectively with staff, employers and organizations

·         Physician’s health reference and Negative TB test

·         Current, satisfactory criminal record search and driver’s abstract



Please Note:

  • The successful candidate will begin employment within the Supported Independent Living Program.
  • Hours of work are: Monday to Friday 9:00 - 16:30, however, they may vary subject to the needs of persons served and may include evenings and weekends on a Flex Schedule.
  • This position is open to all qualified individuals and requires Union membership
  • Applicants may request that a Union observer sit on the selection committee in the capacity of a disinterested party
  • This position may become open to external applicants on the eighth day of posting
  • If this position is advertised externally, closing date on external advertisement shall prevail
  • This position is subject to temporary funding and will be cancelled with two weeks’ notice
  • This position will require use of employee’s personal vehicle for transportation
