About this role

Join the team bringing advanced autonomy to the built world

At Bedrock, we’re moving AI out of the lab and into the real world. Our team is composed of industry veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue. Today, we’re deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction machinery across the country, accelerating project schedules of billion-dollar infrastructure projects and improving safety on job sites. Backed by $350M in funding, we’re working quickly to close the gap between America's surging demand for housing, data centers, manufacturing hubs, and the construction industry's growing labor shortage.

This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots. You’ll collaborate with construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can’t touch. If you're ready to apply cutting-edge technology to solve meaningful problems alongside a talented team—we'd love to have you join us.

Description

As a Mechanical Systems Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for the physical integration of sensors, compute hardware, actuators, and supporting subsystems onto our next-generation autonomous construction machines. Working closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain teams, you will translate system-level requirements into robust mechanical designs optimized for scale, reliability, manufacturing, industrial design, and operations, which survive demanding real-world environments — from vibration and shock, to dust, debris, and weather exposure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Integration Design: Develop mounting brackets, enclosures, class A surfaces, and structural interfaces for sensors (cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs), compute units, and ancillary hardware onto vehicle platforms.

  • 3D CAD Design: Create detailed part and assembly models using Onshape including GD&T-compliant drawings for fabrication and vendor sourcing.

  • Routing & Packaging: Collaborate with cross functional teams to define physical routing paths for wire harnesses, fluid lines, and cooling components within tight mechanical envelopes.

  • Environmental Protection: Design and select appropriate sealing, gasketing, and protective enclosures (IP-rated) to safeguard sensitive electronics from moisture, dust, and contamination.

  • Prototype Build Support: Hands-on participation in prototype builds, including hardware installation, fit-check validation, and iterative design refinement on the shop floor.

  • Structural & Thermal Analysis: Perform first-order hand calculations and collaborate with analysis teams to validate designs for static loads, vibration fatigue, and thermal dissipation.

  • Supplier & Vendor Management: Work with fabrication vendors and contract manufacturers to source custom brackets, enclosures, and machined components from RFQ through delivery.

  • Retrofit Strategy: Design non-invasive mechanical integration solutions for OEM donor vehicles, preserving factory structure and serviceability while accommodating new autonomous hardware.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with electrical, software, and field teams during bring-up and validation phases to resolve fit, form, and function issues on prototype machines.

  • BOM & Documentation: Maintain accurate Bills of Materials, assembly drawings, and integration documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and integration for vehicles, heavy machinery, robotics, or industrial equipment.

  • CAD Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD such as Onshape, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX; familiarity with PDM/PLM systems a plus.

Our roles are often flexible. If you don't fit all the criteria, or are in another location (especially one where we have an office like SF or NY) please apply anyway! We'd love to consider you.
