SUMMARY OF ROLE

The ServiceNow Platform Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, automation, integration, and operational support of the ServiceNow platform and related enterprise workflows. This role combines platform engineering, automation development, business process optimization, and production support to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and a proactive mindset focused on platform reliability, user experience, and long-term maintainability.



Responsibilities:



Platform Engineering & Administration

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize the ServiceNow platform to ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Design and implement workflows, automations, integrations, reports, dashboards, and catalog solutions using both Flow Designer and scripting approaches.
  • Develop and maintain Business Rules, Script Includes, UI Actions, Client Scripts, and scoped applications following platform best practices.
  • Plan and implement solutions with consideration for upgrade compatibility, maintainability, and operational supportability.
  • Support platform governance, compliance requirements, and accurate technical documentation.

Automation & Integrations

  • Build and maintain REST/SOAP integrations, import sets, transform maps, and scheduled data imports.
  • Support MID Server operations and assist with troubleshooting integration and connectivity issues.
  • Implement error handling, logging, monitoring hooks, rollback strategies, and validation controls within automation solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend the lowest-risk technical approach using out-of-the-box functionality, configuration, or scripting as appropriate.

Platform Operations & Support

  • Troubleshoot platform issues across scripts, workflows, ACLs, integrations, and data relationships.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement durable corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Support clone activities, post-clone validation, and platform upgrade readiness tasks including remediation of instance scan findings.
  • Monitor platform performance and apply best practices related to query efficiency, indexing awareness, and scalable scripting patterns.

Business Partnership & Solution Delivery

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Break down ambiguous requests into executable implementation plans including dependencies, testing strategies, rollout plans, and rollback procedures.
  • Deliver moderate-to-complex enhancements and projects with controlled risk and clear communication of scope, dependencies, and trade-offs.ย 
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, automation, and engineering velocity through reusable patterns and process improvements.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Mentor junior engineers and analysts through code reviews, troubleshooting support, and technical guidance.
  • Contribute to platform engineering standards, reusable templates, operational runbooks, and development best practices.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and coordinate work across technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.



Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience administering, configuring, or engineering solutions within the ServiceNow platform.
  • Strong understanding of the ServiceNow data model including tables, dictionary attributes, reference relationships, CMDB/CI relationships, and lifecycle implications.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Flow Designer
    • Business Rules
    • Script Includes
    • Client Scripts
    • UI Actions
    • Import Sets and Transform Maps
    • REST/SOAP integrations
  • Experience troubleshooting platform issues across workflows, scripts, integrations, ACLs, and data conditions.
  • Understanding of platform performance concepts including query efficiency, indexing, and scalable scripting practices.
  • Proven ability to gather requirements, analyze business processes, and deliver maintainable technical solutions.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and adaptable in balancing technical and operational priorities.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
  • Experience supporting ITSM, ITOM, CMDB, HRSD, or Employee Experience modules
  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies
  • Familiarity with enterprise SaaS administration and integration patterns
