Policy Advisor - Existing position


Band: 2 - $53,188 - $66,485 **Compensation is aligned with internal equity and market benchmarks. In limited circumstances, offers above the posted range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications or highly specialized expertise**ย ย 


This role, as with all positions at ITK is 100% in-office, requires being in the office full-time at 75 Albert Street, Ottawa, ON.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager, Policy Advancement, the Policy Advisor supports the coordination and implementation of policy and project activities within assigned priority areas.


This role provides administrative, research, and coordination support to policy initiatives, including assisting with project planning, gathering information, and supporting engagement with internal and external partners. The Coordinator works within established priorities, timelines, and processes to help ensure effective delivery of policy work.

  • National Inuit Youth Council
  • Education
  • Inuktut

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

PLANNING & COORDINATION

  • Assist with the preparation of project plans and proposals.
  • Support the coordination of project activities and working groups, including scheduling, logistics, and materials.
  • Track project timelines and deliverables, and follow up on action items as required.
  • Conduct background research and information gathering to support planning activities.

POLICY SUPPORT

  • Conduct basic research and compile information related to assigned policy areas
  • Assist with consultations, including note-taking, logistics, and documentation
  • Support the development of policy materials by organizing data and contributing to draft content
  • Maintain awareness of policy developments relevant to assigned files

COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT

  • Draft and format documents, including briefing notes, reports, and presentations
  • Prepare materials for meetings and working groups
  • Assist with coordinating communications with Inuit organizations and external partners, as directed.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Maintain organized records and filing systems for policy, project, and research activities
  • Compile and update reports on project status and activities
  • Support basic budget tracking by gathering and organizing financial information
  • Perform general administrative tasks in support of the team

KEY CONTACTS

  • Nurture a high-performance environment within national level working groups and committees. This will include task forces or working groups struck from time to time with Government Departments;
  • Attend meetings and conferences or committees as required;
  • Work as a team member with other Policy Advancement staff, with officials of Inuit organizations, funding institutions, and other agencies both government and private


QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Ability to follow processes, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Basic research and information-gathering skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to Inuit communities and priorities
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills (primarily in English; Inuktitut and/or French an asset);
  • Knowledge and understanding of Inuit land claim agreements are an asset;
  • Hardworking and committed to coordinating, delivery, organizing, and administering the policies and files;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal relationship skills

EXPERIENCE

  • Approximately 1โ€“3 years of experience in policy, administration, or project coordination
  • Experience supporting projects, research, or consultations is an asset
  • Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous organizations is an asset

EDUCATION

  • Completion of Grade Twelve, with relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience considered an asset

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Work is complex;
  • Operational direction is provided by the supervisor;
  • Makes project and program recommendations to the Manager;
  • Consequence of error could impact on operational success;
  • Occasional travel and meetings;
  • Politically sensitive issues may become stressful; and
  • Frequent short notice deadlines.
