About the role

At Compass ELC Victoria Graduate, you will work as a Pedagogical and Co-Culture Lead, fostering a culture based on the practices of being present, living into a coaching mindset, and building relationships that create emotional safety. You will support and mentor some of the most passionate, caring, and wholehearted educators in the industry. You will help build an accepting and welcoming culture that invites all of our educators, families, children, and community partners to live in. You will work collaboratively alongside the Operations Lead as co-active leads to foster and support a program with a deepening culture of reflective practice and growing pedagogy that is aligned with Compass ELC’s Vision Framework, Program Statement, Equity Statement, pedagogical orientations, cultural elements, and How Does Learning Happen. You will work 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Hours will vary based on the program needs, between 6:30am and 6:00pm supporting with infant, toddler, preschool, kinder and school aged children.

Some accountabilities associated with the role include:

  • Lives into and supports a kind, caring, and joyful work environment. 
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively in a co-active leadership model and with co-workers, families, community partners, and children to grow a supportive and inclusive culture amongst the whole program.
  • Attend team meetings, networking, and all Leads meetings
  • Ensure the safety of staff and children by learning and acknowledging all children’s diverse needs and backgrounds, and creating equitable opportunities for all children to engage.
  • Engage and support professional learning that builds a culture of reflective practice and collaborative critical thinking.
  • Encourage and foster the leadership of all staff in the team.
  • Nurture a culture of collaboration, research & reflective practice that grows our community of learners and deepens our practice in alignment with our pedagogical orientations and strategic vision.
  • Create systems and structures for focused pedagogical time with educators (including individual and team meetings, and intentional side-by-sides).
  • Support the development & ongoing reflection of Professional Learning Goals.
  • Support educators in bringing visibility to children’s learning and competencies using the Cycle of Inquiry, Visual Representation Protocol through research, and Storypark.
  • Observe and document children’s learning, bringing visibility to children’s competencies, theories, ideas, and curiosities.
  • Support the program in creating and maintaining aesthetically pleasing, rich learning environments indoors and outdoors to engage children's curious minds and lively bodies.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a licensed childcare environment
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience working as an Early Childhood Educator or Equivalent
  • Is passionate about early learning and care, emergent curriculum, and lifelong learning.
  • Is eager to grow your practice as a collaborator, researcher, facilitator, and learner.
  • Has a natural disposition towards research and inquiry.
  • Has a deep understanding of How Does Learning Happen, related legislation, Compass ELC policies and procedures, Vision Framework, Program Statement, Equity Statement, foundation series, CCEYA (Child Care Early Years Act), collaborative leadership, and supporting a workplace culture that is safe and joyful.
  • Is registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators and possesses the training and documents required by the Ministry of Education to work in a childcare setting.
    • Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check
    • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
    • Updated immunization records (Or a signed and notarized refusal of affidavit or medical exemption).
    • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or has a post-secondary degree in a similar field.
  • Is familiar with CELC platforms, including StoryPark, Parent, and Bamboo.
