FLSA Status: Part-time/Non-Exempt up to 29 hours per week. 

*Hours are typically Monday through Friday; 1:00pm - 6:30pm*

Southeastern NC, BGCSENC offers safe, inclusive, and enriching environments that promote academic

success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship.


Job Summary

The Life & Workforce Readiness Coordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive life readiness, leadership development, and workforce readiness initiatives, with a primary focus on middle and high school members. This position supports the development of career pathways, employability skills, financial literacy, workforce exposure opportunities, leadership development, and post-secondary readiness programs. The Coordinator oversees workforce readiness programming, manages grant deliverables and reporting requirements, supports teen employment opportunities, builds community and employer partnerships, and ensures high-quality implementation of BGCA programs, including CareerLaunch, Money Matters, Diplomas to Degrees, and other workforce development initiatives.


Major Responsibilities

Life & Workforce Readiness Programming

  • Design and implement Life & Workforce Readiness programming, ensuring programming reflects a developmental progression that builds:
    • Foundational life skills for elementary youth (K–5)
    • Leadership development and career exploration for middle school youth (6–8)
    • Career pathways and post-secondary readiness for high school youth (9–12)
  • Deliver programming that strengthens life and employability skills, including communication, teamwork, professionalism, problem-solving, goal setting, and responsibility.
  • Ensure that middle and high school members have access to college- and career-readiness experiences, including postsecondary exploration, planning, and transition readiness.
  • Strengthen work-based learning pathways, including internships, paid work opportunities, job shadowing, and employer-connected experiences.
  • Lead scholarship initiatives that support post-secondary access and career pathways, including scholarship processes, communications, and recipient support.
  • Create meaningful leadership opportunities for youth through peer leadership roles, service-learning projects, and youth-led initiatives.

Partnerships & Grant Management

  • Maintain strong partnerships with BGCA, school districts, employers, higher education institutions, and community organizations that support BGCSENC’s Life & Workforce Readiness priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Resource Development team on grant applications, grant administration, reporting requirements, and funder deliverables.
  • Build and maintain a network of stakeholders and employers who can provide mentorship, skills development, experiential learning opportunities, internships, and employment pathways for members.

Training, Coaching & Staff Support

  • Support the onboarding of Club staff by providing orientation to Life & Workforce Readiness program expectations, resources, tools, and timelines.
  • Mentor Club staff on BGCSENC’s Life & Workforce Readiness curriculum, expectations, and implementation strategies.
  • Identify and support opportunities for workforce-readiness programming for staff and volunteers.

Program Management

  • Complete program evaluations and youth workers' performance tracking.
  • Compile monthly program reports reflecting activities, attendance, participation, and outcomes.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, workplace tours, career fairs, job shadowing experiences, and community workforce events.
  • Identify local workforce needs and help develop talent pipelines that benefit both Club teens and local employers.

Data, Evaluation & Impact

  • Support implementation of program quality frameworks related to Life & Workforce Readiness, ensuring consistency, fidelity, and continuous improvement across Clubs.
  • Ensure accurate data collection and reporting for attendance, program outcomes, grant compliance, and fundraising efforts.
  • Maintain accurate program statistics, operational reports, and performance metrics for leadership, funders, grant compliance, and BGCA requirements.

Financial Management

  • Support the development, monitoring, and responsible use of program budgets related to Life & Workforce Readiness initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not directly supervise employees.
  • This position is primarily based at the Brigade Teen Center but may occasionally work from other BGCSENC facilities as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage special programs, events, and initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in organization-wide Club activities and events.
  • May be required to drive the Club van periodically.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends, and to travel for training or events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Relationships

Internal

Maintains close contact with Club staff, leadership, and volunteers to exchange information, provide guidance, discuss program implementation, and support organizational goals.

External

Maintains relationships with schools, community organizations, employers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders to promote Life & Workforce Readiness initiatives and increase teen participation in programming.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in youth development, workforce development, nonprofit leadership, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use insights to drive program decisions and improvements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Preferred

  • Experience with Boys & Girls Club programming or similar youth-serving organizations strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of workforce readiness initiatives, youth development principles, and program quality standards.
  • Familiarity with the Southeastern North Carolina community and local workforce landscape.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel to Club sites is required, including occasional outdoor activities. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved travel outside assigned counties.
