About the Role

This role exists to build the infrastructure that money moves on. Backend Engineering at Aspora isn't a support function. It is the core of everything we ship: the APIs that power cross-border transactions, the systems that handle millions of events without flinching, the architecture that makes regulated fintech feel effortless to the end user.

You will be one of the earliest engineers to shape the platform from the ground up. That means real decisions, real tradeoffs, and real ownership. You will work directly with the founding team, product, and frontend to ship fast and build right.

What You'll Own

• Design and build scalable backend systems that power Aspora's cross-border payment products end to end

• Own the API layer: architect RESTful services and microservices that are modular, performant, and production-ready

• Build resilient, fault-tolerant infrastructure capable of handling millions of transactions with high availability

• Drive database design and optimisation across distributed systems to ensure speed and reliability at scale

• Shape Aspora's engineering culture and architecture decisions as one of the earliest backend hires

Who You Are

3–6 years in backend development, ideally at a product-led startup or fintech where you built for scale, not just maintained it.

• Deep experience with RESTful APIs and microservices: you've designed them, not just consumed them

• Proficient in Java, Spring Boot, Python, or Go; the language matters less than the depth of your systems thinking

• High ownership. You treat a production incident as your problem until it is resolved.

• Comfortable with ambiguity. You build structure where there isn't any, and write the playbook others follow.

• Bias for execution: you ship, learn, and iterate without waiting for perfect conditions

Strong advantages: experience in payments infrastructure, regulated fintech, or high-throughput distributed systems. Not required.
