About this role

Job Summary: The Body Shop Mechanic is responsible for repairing and restoring damaged vehicles to their original structural integrity, safety standards, and pre-accident condition. This role requires expertise in various collision repair techniques, an attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and safety standards. The technician will work collaboratively with estimators, painters, and other team members to ensure a seamless and efficient repair process for the customer.

Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Vehicle Assessment & Planning: Examine damaged vehicles, identify all issues, and plan the most appropriate repair process in line with manufacturer specifications.
  • Structural & Panel Repair: Repair or replace damaged body panels (e.g., fenders, doors, hoods), fill dents and small holes with body filler, and use specialized equipment to restore frames and unibody structures to factory settings.
  • Disassembly & Reassembly: Carefully remove and reassemble damaged parts, interior trim, electrical components, and accessories to gain access to repair areas.
  • Quality Control: Conduct thorough quality checks and test drives as needed to ensure all repairs are complete, the vehicle functions properly, and meets all safety and aesthetic standards.
  • Documentation & Communication: Clearly document all work performed and parts used on the repair order, and communicate with management and estimators regarding repair status or any additional work needed.
  • Safety & Maintenance: Operate all tools and equipment safely and maintain a clean, organized work area. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a vocational training program or apprenticeship in automotive body repair is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a body shop mechanic/auto body technician or in a similar role.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of body shop tools and equipment, including welding equipment, pneumatic tools, sanders, Hunter alignment racks, tire machines, and frame machines.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive repair principles and modern repair techniques for various materials (steel, aluminum, plastic, etc.).
  • Basic computer skills for diagnostic software and record-keeping.



Certifications/Licenses (Preferred):

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification in Collision Repair.
  • I-CAR Certification (e.g., I-CAR Welding Certified).



Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and inspect vehicles for prolonged periods. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or more unassisted. 
  • Comfortable working in a body shop environment, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, and chemicals.
