About this role
The CiRCE Institute is starting a Village School in the Concord/Kannapolis area in North Carolina. The Village School will be an independent entity with its own board and leadership but will be a member of and follow the guidance of The CiRCE Institute's Village School Program.
We are looking for a full-time teacher to co-teach with another full-time teacher in our age-integrated, liberal arts, classical school. This particular village school will be an Orthodox Christian, classical school.
As a teacher, you will work together with other teacher, the board, and the CiRCE Village School program to establish this village school. You will:
- participate in curriculum selection
- receive training in teaching the Seven Liberal Arts (provided by CiRCE)
- receive training in teaching in an age-integrated classroom (provided by CiRCE)
- promote the school within the community
- be responsible for administrative tasks
- teach in the Village School
Village School teachers will function as headmasters and teachers, and possibly also as secretary. While contemporary schools are developed from the outset to decrease each teacher’s autonomy, and in doing so dilute the harm they might inflict, the village school grants each teacher great authority, equips them to exercise it, and holds them accountable for how they use it, multiplying the good they might do. The form of the village school assumes trustworthy, capable teachers.
The teachers should have the following qualities:

- comfort with trying new things and adjusting based on feedback
- able to receive criticism well

- yearning to grow into the Orthodox phronema (or be willing to teach in an Orthodox setting)
The teachers should have the following skills:
- classroom management
- lesson planning
- basic skills in all 7 liberal arts
- basic Latin skills (can be learned after hiring through CiRCE training, teachers must agree to continue studying to fluency)
- mimetic teaching (can be learned after hiring through CiRCE training)
- Socratic teaching (can be learned after hiring through CiRCE training)
- learning and research
- writing
- speaking
The teachers should have the following experience:
- Completed the CIRCE Teacher Apprenticeship (exceptions made for excellent candidates who have completed one year upon the opening of the school)
- at least two years teaching experience either in the home, school, or coop
- at least two years working with kids
- 3+ years of regular church attendance
- leadership roles in a variety of contexts (can include non-professional settings)
The position will be in the area of Concord/Kannapolis, NC. It is a full-time position, and it requires the teacher to relocate to the area. Relocation expenses may be reimbursed. Health benefits are available. A generous discount for the teacher's child(ren) to attend the village school is also available.
