Position Overview

The Project Accountant is responsible for project setup, work breakdown structure
maintenance, job cost reporting, and project billing within a government contracting ERP environment. This role supports accurate project financial management, contract compliance, and timely billing in accordance with contractual requirements.


This position follows a hybrid work schedule consisting of three (3) onsite days and two (2) remote days per week. To support onboarding and training, employees are required to work onsite full-time during the first 30 days of employment.


Experience with ERP systems commonly used in government contracting environments, such as JAMIS Prime, Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar platforms, is preferred. Training on the JAMIS Prime ERP system will be provided.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Setup

  • Set up new projects in Prime ERP systems
  • Maintain contract values and funding
  • Ensure proper linkage between contract, project, and invoice structure WBS Structure Maintenance
  • Create and maintain WBS structures
  • Align cost categories with operational tracking
  • Ensure billing aligns with WBS elements
  • Update WBS when scope changes occur

Commercial Project Billing

  • Prepare and issue customer invoices
  • Validate billing against contract terms
  • Track billed vs. unbilled amounts
  • Coordinate with operations for billing approvals

Job Cost Reporting (Commercial Side)

  • Monitor labor, materials, and subcontract costs
  • Prepare monthly gross margin reports by project
  • Identify cost variances and flag issues
  • Provide project profitability reporting to leadership

Month-End Project Support

  • Reconcile project-level balances
  • Assist with WIP reporting
  • Support project-related accruals
    Validate cost postings

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5+ years of accounting experience in a project-based environment
  • Experience with project setup, job cost accounting, and project billing
  • Hands-on experience in an ERP system (preferably project-based ERP)
  • U.S Citizenship Required


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with JAMIS Prime ERP
  • Experience in a Government Contracting (GovCon) environment
  • Knowledge of FAR, cost-reimbursable, T&M, and firm-fixed-price contract types
