1. Jr Naval Architect / Tech (New!)
About this role
At Allswater, we like to keep things interesting—because let’s face it, ships are cool. But more importantly, the work we do matters.
We’re building the future of marine engineering through bold thinking, practical solutions, and a team that goes all in—for our clients, for each other, and for the projects we take from concept to reality. With projects spanning industries, borders, and oceans, this is an opportunity to start your career where you’ll actually see the impact of your work.
The Role
We’re looking for a Junior Naval Architect or Naval Architectural Technologist to join our growing team in Halifax.
This is an early-career role where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and naval architects—contributing directly to real-world projects from day one. You’ll be involved in everything from design and analysis to onsite work and client deliverables, developing practical design skills across the full lifecycle of marine projects.
What You’ll Do
You’ll support a wide range of marine projects, including new builds, conversions, and vessels in operation, as well as emerging work in areas like decarbonization and electrification.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Develop design and production drawings and 3D models
- Assist with structural analysis using classification rules and first-principles calculations
- Support stability-related work, including:
- Weight estimates
- Lightship surveys
- Inclining experiments
- Stability booklets
- Participate in vessel inspections, surveys, and Lidar Scanning as required
- Contribute to technical specifications and engineering reports
- Work closely with senior staff to learn how projects move from concept through to delivery
What You Bring
- Diploma or degree in Naval Architecture or related field
- 0–3 years of experience (new grads encouraged to apply)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential)
- Familiarity with shipbuilding, construction, and repair practices
- Exposure to Class rules and Flag State requirements (or willingness to learn)
- Experience with Rhino and/or GHS is an asset
- Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
- Clear communication skills and ability to work in a team
Most importantly:
You’re curious, practical, and motivated to learn by doing.
Why Allswater
- Work on real projects across multiple industries and vessel types
- Be part of a collaborative team that supports your growth
- Get exposure to the full lifecycle of projects—from concept to delivery
- Gain hands-on experience that goes beyond typical entry-level roles
- Flexible work environment with a culture that values balance and autonomy
And yes— you’ll work with people who genuinely think ships are cool.
Who You Are
You’re someone who:
- Takes ownership and shows initiative
- Wants to understand the “why,” not just the “what”
- Works well with others and contributes to team success
- Is excited to be part of a company that is growing, evolving, and building something meaningful
Apply
If you’re ready to start your career where you’ll actually make an impact, we’d like to hear from you.
