1344 - Data Engineer
Role Summary and Impact
This role forms part of a data engineering team assigned to one of WPP’s major global clients, who will be building and maintaining a global data warehouse, automated reports, and data provisioning applications to ensure that media and marketing stakeholders the world over will have access to the right data and insights to inform their marketing decisions.  Â
The team’s primary responsibility is to build and maintain a global Google Cloud based reporting solution, which automates the collection and transformation of disparate marketing data into a single source of truth.  Not only does that mean running and maintaining the solution that already exists, but also continually improving it to incorporate new data sources, and to derive new insights, to support ever-evolving business demands.Â
As a Data Engineer your primary responsibility will be to support campaign reporting by creating and maintaining infrastructure supporting timely, accurate and meaningful data deliverables & reporting. You will serve as a leader and exemplar of data engineering best practices and thought. In doing so you will exhibit a foundational understanding of cloud technology and key data engineering skills and knowledge to help your team build their career in this fast evolving, and in demand, industry.Â
Some of the things we’d like you to do:Â
- Deploy data collectors in Adverity to gather data from media, agency system, and other sourcesÂ
- Develop and expand on existing data “recipes” and transformations in SQL via DBT run on Google Cloud PlatformÂ
- Development and maintain data quality checks and procedures, helping stakeholders overcome data issues before they impact the quality of the reporting solutionÂ
- Support the translation of user requirements and business needs into technical specificationsÂ
- Be a proficient user of Google Cloud Platform and associated technologies, ensuring your work incorporates industry best practice
- Monitor automated jobs, troubleshooting data issues as-and-when they ariseÂ
- Support other members of the team responsible for “last mile” transformation and visualization of data within Google Data Studio reports and dashboardsÂ
- Serve as a technical and professional leader for junior staffÂ
- Provide hands-on support to users of reporting solutions, helping the wider team triage and respond to user queries in a timely mannerÂ
- Attend internal stakeholder meetings, presenting your solutions and providing updates on your work.Â
- Support the development strong working relationships with third-party data providers that we rely on for access to necessary dataÂ
Skills and Experience
RequiredÂ
- Experience in data engineering, preferably handling advertising media or marketing dataÂ
- Experience in GCP
- Professional experience with SQL, preferably deployed via DBTÂ
- Analytically minded, enabling you to understand and overcome technically complex challenges, and to tell compelling stories with dataÂ
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fairly autonomous wayÂ
- Strong spoken and written communication skills, ensuring your thoughts and needs are heard and understoodÂ
- An ability to demonstrate a passion for the digital marketing ecosystem, and an understanding of the role that data plays within itÂ
- Delivers best results when working in a team environment, and an ability to partner effectively with people of varying degrees of technical capabilityÂ
DesirableÂ
- Previous experience working with data and technologyÂ
- Experience with digital marketing platforms and the data they generate, in particular Google Marketing Platform, Facebook, Tiktok etc.
- An understanding of how data is tracked and exchanged in the process of digital advertising (e.g. role of ad servers and other third-party tech vendors)Â
- Experience using or building reports with business intelligence software, ideally Microsoft PowerBIÂ
- Work experience within a marketing organization, preferably at a media agency or related company (e.g. publisher, ad tech, client marketing org)Â
