Overview

LPN / LVN – Oncology

Location: Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, ME

Full-time | Nights | 7p–7a | 12-Hour Shifts

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) provides direct and indirect patient care in a specialized Oncology unit. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), this role supports cancer patient care, symptom management, and treatment support, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and quality outcomes while enhancing the patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide bedside care for oncology and hematology patients
• Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and treatment side effects (e.g., pain, nausea, fatigue)
• Assist with medication administration, IV therapy, and blood draws
• Support chemotherapy/infusion processes (within scope of practice)
• Collaborate with RNs, physicians, and oncology care teams
• Ensure patient safety, infection control, and protective precautions
• Document care in EMR/EHR systems
• Communicate changes in patient condition promptly
• Provide compassionate support to patients and families

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1.     High School Diploma or equivalent required.

2.     Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) required.

3.     IV certification and Blood Withdrawal (BW) certification within 90 days of hire date.

4.     Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.

5.     Work experience in health care preferred.
