Maintenance Specialist
About this role
Overview
Provides maintenance and/or repairs to the Agency buildings and grounds, as well as to the organization's equipment. Must be able to perform with limited supervision, accept responsibilities, initiate problem solving and/or decision – making related to specialized trade work.

Responsibilities
- Maintains and repairs agency buildings and equipment by performing specific specialized trade work (e.g. operating engineer, electrical, plumbing, mason, construction, painting, etc.) Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary course of action for repair.
- Performs specialized repairs that does require specific knowledge and skills in the trades that they are assigned to. Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities; Orders supplies, parts, and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Promote favorable appearance and operations of Agency facilities and equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and their ability to protect the safety of campus users. Act as responsible person if assigned to a building or task. Must do planning, anticipate problems, and integrate job-related information into projects.
- Perform preventive maintenance at all locations; seasonal maintenance as required which includes snow removal and other weather-related responsibilities. Perform duties as requested to promote favorable appearance of agency property.
- Performs other related duties as assigned (e.g. delivers and collects materials, takes agency vehicles for inspection, etc.) as directed by Management.
- Relocates furniture (e.g. office equipment) by lifting and using transportation equipment to transfer furniture without damage to people or the facilities.
This position requires regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with people receiving services and, therefore, is subject to successful completion of fingerprint/criminal background check.
Ensure that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff. Observance of an unsafe act or a potentially hazardous work environment must be immediately reported to supervisor and/or safety committee.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior general maintenance experiences required, including minor trade work repairs. Valid and qualified NYS driver’s license required. If you currently maintain an out-of-state driver’s license; you must transfer your license to NYS within 30 days of hire.
