Job Overview
Under general supervision, the Night Porter ensures the security, cleanliness, and operational readiness of the hotel during overnight hours. This role includes property rounds, public area cleaning, early morning breakfast preparation, and stripping of hotel guestrooms. The position plays a critical part in ensuring a seamless transition between overnight and daytime operations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the property to maintain safety and security for guests, staff, and assets.
- Monitor public and back-of-house areas and report any suspicious activity, safety concerns, or maintenance issues.
- Empty trash bins and clean public areas, including lobby, restrooms, and hallways.
- Clean and reset the hotel patio area, including wiping tables, empty trash and reset furniture.
- Prepare MEPS “Shippers” breakfast between 3:00 AM and 3:30 AM.
- Set up and serve MEPS group breakfast from 4:00 AM to 4:45 AM.
- Clean and reset kitchen and dining area between 4:45 AM and 5:45 AM.
- Strip trash and linen from MEPS checkout rooms starting at 6:00 AM to support housekeeping.
- Maintain sanitation and food safety standards during all food handling and cleaning tasks.
- Respond professionally and promptly to guest needs or emergency calls during the shift.
- Always demonstrate professionalism and courtesy when interacting with guests, vendors, or team members.
- Assist guests with retrieving their luggage.
- Guests should be professionally greeted within 5 ft of your area when in public areas of the hotel.
- Associates should take the initiative to offer assistance or answer questions throughout the hotel.
- Associates should always demonstrate self-confidence, energy, and enthusiasm.
- Use empowerment to exceed associate and guest expectations and resolve conflicts.
- Associates are to work as a team, helping all teammates to complete the required activities which will ensure guest satisfaction.
- All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications
Education/Formal Training
High school education or equivalent experience.
Experience
Accounting background preferred, but not required.
Knowledge/Skills
- Must be detailed-oriented and capable of working independently
- Basic knowledge of cleaning and food handling procedures required
- Ability to follow safety and emergency procedures
- Food Handler’s card preferred or ability to obtain upon hire
- Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively
- Must be proactive, dependable, and guest-service oriented
