Its mission statement, "To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow," focuses on addressing key environmental issues such as global climate change. As an energy-saving solutions provider with core competencies in power electronics and automation, Delta's business categories include Power Electronics, Mobility, Automation, and Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

The Power System Engineer – Microgrid & Data Center Applications is responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of electrical power systems supporting mission-critical data center microgrids. This role focuses on ensuring reliability, resilience, scalability, and grid compatibility for systems serving high-density, fast-ramping loads, including AI and hyperscale data centers.

The position bridges power system design, modeling, interconnection, and operational requirements, working closely with control, protection, commissioning, and customer teams to deliver robust, repeatable microgrid solutions tailored for data center environments.

Main Accountabilities

  • Design and validate data-center-grade microgrid power architectures.
  • Ensure system performance under fast load transients, partial failures, and islanded operation.
  • Own power system studies supporting interconnection, reliability, and compliance.
  • Define and enforce electrical design standards for scalable microgrid deployments.
  • Support integration of BESS, generation, UPS, and utility interfaces.
  • Reduce deployment and operational risk through early technical rigor and validation.
  • Serve as a technical counterpart to customers, utilities, and internal stakeholders.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Develop and review:
    • System one-line diagrams
    • Power distribution architectures (MV/LV)
    • Redundancy and topology concepts (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1)
  • Define system operating modes including:
    • Grid-connected, islanded, and transition states
    • Black start and load restoration strategies
  • Coordinate integration of:
    • Utility feeds
    • BESS and inverter-based resources
    • Diesel or gas generation
    • UPS and rack-level power systems

Minimum Qualifications

    • Perform and review studies including:
      • Load flow and voltage regulation
      • Short-circuit and equipment duty
      • Transient and dynamic performance (in coordination with stability engineers)
      • Protection coordination
    • Analyze system response to:
      • Fast load ramps (e.g., AI workload swings)
      • Loss of major equipment or feeders
      • Mode transitions between grid and islanded operation
    • Ensure study assumptions align with:
      • Control strategies
      • Equipment ratings
      • Customer reliability requirements
    • Coordinate power interfaces between:
      • Utility and microgrid POI
      • MV distribution
      • UPS and downstream load filtering
    • Understand and leverage load filtering provided by:
      • UPS systems
      • Rack-level power electronics

    • Define clear boundaries between load-side dynamics and grid-facing systems.
    • Support utility interconnection processes by:
      • Preparing technical study inputs
      • Reviewing interconnection study results
      • Ensuring IEEE 1547 and utility compliance
    • Coordinate system settings and documentation required for approval.
    • Act as a technical interface during utility and reviews.
    • Develop and maintain:
      • Design assumptions and calculation records
      • Engineering reports and technical summaries

    Soft Skills & Behavioral Competencies

    • Systems thinker – able to balance control performance, hardware limits, grid requirements, and operational constraints.
    • Structured problem solver – approaches complex technical problems methodically and transparently.
    • Technical communicator – can clearly explain control concepts to non-controls experts, customers, and leadership.
    • Collaborative mindset – works effectively across disciplines and organizational

    boundaries.

    • Ownership & accountability – takes responsibility for technical outcomes from concept through deployment.
    • Adaptability – comfortable working in evolving architectures and handling ambiguous requirements.
    • Attention to detail – maintains rigor in documentation, testing, and validation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with microgrid controllers, EMS, or plant-level supervisory controls.
  • Exposure to utility interconnection processes and grid code compliance.
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering or related field.
