About this role

At Houston Methodist, the Project Control Specialist, a direct report to the Vice President of Capital Planning, is responsible for developing and implementing project controls for all major capital projects at Houston Methodist. This position develops, monitors, tracks, analyzes, forecasts, and reports on project schedules and budgets for Houston Methodist's major capital construction projects. The Project Control Specialist position acts as administrator for the project cost accounting system e-Builder and Project. This position has oversight and maintenance of department's electronic reporting dashboard, analyzing data, and reporting project progress. The Project Control Specialist position must have strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter, confident in abilities, self-motivated, with the ability to effectively manage people and drive results without formal influence, with the ability to creatively solve problems. Additionally, this position partners effectively to implement and lead programs/projects through a multi-layered, decentralized organization. FLSA STATUS

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field, or four years of experience (in addition to minimum work experience required listed below) in lieu of degree

EXPERIENCE
  • Seven years’ experience in related discipline to include five years of project management and/or project accounting experience of moderate complexity and extended duration

  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new situations, anticipate needs and excellent planning skills
  • Highly technology-oriented with ability to rapidly learn new PMIS (Project Management Information Systems)
  • Experience managing invoices and payment applications in digital systems
  • Understanding of how project controls support overall organization goals
  • Technical understanding of the construction industry
  • Experience in Workday applications
  • Experience developing and maintaining reporting dashboards utilizing Power BI
  • Assist in PMIS (Project Management Information Systems) implementation and act as system administrator in vendor onboarding, provide helpdesk support to internal teams and client users, maintain system configuration and data integrity
  • Oversight and support of the Construction contract audit process by outside audit firm
  • Support delivery of the project controls services, including capital planning, project funding and setup; cost and commercial management, schedule control, risk management and project close-out
  • Perform data entry and verification across program systems
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure PMIS governance

  • Develops, monitors, tracks, analyzes, forecasts, and reports on project schedules and budgets for Houston Methodist’s major capital construction projects.
  • Develops and tracks estimates for project completion, project commitments and expenditures, project progress and productivity.
  • Exhibits extreme resourcefulness and draws on diverse assets and sources to provide solutions and find insights on various trends and information to make high-quality, informed decisions that drive value.

  • Develops procedural controls for monitoring and reporting project progress.
  • Drives processes efficiently, using a critical eye for detail, analytical, project management approach, guiding all key stakeholders, ensuring all requirements are met while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Oversees documentation and quality assurance of requirements of projects to ensure internal, state and regulatory compliance when applicable; develops and holds self and others accountable to detailed project plans.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides support for project pricing and scheduling. Analyzes data and report project progress.
  • Maintains and distributes financial reports, forecasts, etc. Meets and coordinates with internal stakeholders, including Finance.
  • Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks. Utilizes time efficiently and helps other team members.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement projects and activities. Follows up on action items to ensure completion of assignments.
