Overview

The role involves tracking legislative and regulatory developments, assessing potential business and compliance impacts, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and assisting with implementation. Prepare summaries, guidance materials, and impact assessments; engage with regulators or trade associations; support rulemaking and compliance efforts; and help ensure policies, procedures, and products align with applicable legal requirements. Provide administrative support to the department as needed.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Director of Government Affairs and departmental staff.

Manage calendars, schedules, travel arrangements, and meeting logistics.

Coordinate internal and external meetings, including preparation of agendas, materials, and follow-up documentation.

Prepare, format, and maintain departmental correspondence, reports, records, and advocacy materials.

Schedule and coordinate advocacy-related meetings with legislators, county officials, and external stakeholders

Assist with logistics for legislative hearings, committee meetings, and advocacy briefings.

Assist with General Assembly committee meeting reports.

Support planning and execution of legislative events, including receptions, luncheons, and stakeholder meetings.

Assist with the preparation, documentation, and submission of all required legislative and lobbying reports in compliance with Kentucky lobbying and ethics laws.

Ensure all mandatory reporting deadlines are met, and records are properly maintained.

Support internal compliance efforts. 

Serve as a point of contact for internal and external inquiries related to Government Affairs activities.

Maintain and update contact lists for legislators, legislative assistants, local government officials, and key advocacy partners.

Participate in state legislative/regulatory proceedings, including the development, drafting, and/or review of statutes or regulations, and drafting of testimony and talking points on proposed legislation.

Keep management, departments, and functional areas informed of the regulatory landscape and changes in the law affecting those areas, and provide timely and accurate information and analysis.

Interact with regulators, industry leaders, governmental organizations, and other key professional organizations as needed (APCIA, NAMIC, NAIC, NCOIL, etc.) to help ensure successful management of governmental issues.

Provide administrative support to industry lobbying groups like the Kentucky Insurance Council.

Demonstrates a positive and supportive attitude toward company and departmental goals.

Regular, predictable attendance.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.

Two or more years of administrative or office support experience, preferably in a governmental agency.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to interact effectively with a team concept.

Ability to read and interpret legislative and regulatory documents.

Basic understanding of state and federal regulatory and legislative authority.

Knowledge of administrative procedures and office management practices.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of relevant statutes and regulations.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly related to compliance and reporting.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to communicate professionally with legislators, elected officials, and external stakeholders.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities during legislative sessions and peak activity periods.

Valid driver’s license
