Position Description:

The Research Technician I in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics will be responsible for supporting Patterson Lab projects investigating the intersection of cellular metabolism, immune function, and genetics. Additional duties will include supporting lab members with ongoing lab tasks and general laboratory maintenance.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for T cell isolation from primary mouse or human samples, cell culture, and subsequent downstream analysis using standard cellular and molecular techniques.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment.

  • Mouse handling and colony maintenance.

  • Support fellow lab members and collaborators in their research.

  • Keep detailed records.

  • In collaboration with Principal Investigator, establish new, and modify existing, standard operating procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in basic cellular and molecular biology techniques, including sterile cell culture, flow cytometry, PCR, isolation of RNA and protein for RNA-sequencing and western blotting.

  • Previous experience in handling mice.  Experienced general laboratory maintenance and maintaining inventory for the lab.

  • Degree in Biology, Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Biology, or related field.

  • One or more years lab research experience.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
