Tax Manager
About this role
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all tax matters relating to Malaysian subsidiaries, ensuring full compliance with Malaysian tax laws and regulations. The role also acts as a coordination point with overseas finance teams on group tax matters, without direct responsibility for foreign tax compliance.Â
Malaysia Tax Compliance & GovernanceÂ
- Manage all direct and indirect tax matters for Malaysian entities, including:Â
- Corporate Income TaxÂ
- Indirect Taxes (SST)Â
- Withholding Tax (WHT)Â
- Transfer Pricing (TP)Â
- E-Invoicing and digital tax complianceÂ
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant tax filings, submissions, and payments in accordance with Malaysian tax regulations.Â
- Maintain proper tax controls, documentation, and audit trails for Malaysian subsidiaries.Â
Transfer Pricing & Consultant ManagementÂ
- Act as the primary liaison with tax consultants for:Â
- Transfer Pricing documentation and benchmarkingÂ
- Statutory filings and tax submissionsÂ
- Technical tax opinions and advisory supportÂ
- Support intercompany transaction structuring involving Malaysian entities to ensure TP compliance.Â
Tax Audits & Business Support (Malaysia-Focused)Â
- Lead and manage tax audits, investigations, and queries by Malaysian tax authorities.Â
- Provide tax support for business initiatives and projects in Malaysia, including ad-hoc tax assessments and risk evaluations.Â
Advisory & Stakeholder ManagementÂ
- Advise internal stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Business Units) on:Â
- Tax implications of contracts, pricing, and business structuresÂ
- Changes in Malaysian tax laws, regulations, and compliance processesÂ
- Communicate and implement tax regulatory updates affecting Malaysian operations.Â
- Act as the key contact for external stakeholders including tax authorities, auditors, and tax advisors.Â
Overseas Coordination (Liaison Role)Â
- Coordinate and liaise with overseas finance teams on:Â
- Cross-border transactions involving Malaysian entitiesÂ
- Information requests from group or auditorsÂ
- Provide Malaysia tax input to support overseas teams where required (without owning foreign tax compliance).Â
QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related fieldÂ
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CTA, or equivalent preferredÂ
ExperienceÂ
- Minimum 7–10 years of Malaysia-focused tax experienceÂ
- Strong hands-on exposure to:Â
- Malaysian corporate tax & SSTÂ
- Withholding taxÂ
- Transfer pricing documentationÂ
- Tax audits and LHDN engagementsÂ
- Experience working with Big 4 or tax advisory firms and/or in-house tax roles is an advantageÂ
Skills & CompetenciesÂ
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax legislation and practiceÂ
- Ability to manage consultants and multiple deadlinesÂ
- Good commercial judgment with a business-partnering mindsetÂ
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skillsÂ
