Job Title: Community Connections OfficerĀ
Location: Gander, NLĀ
Position Type: 1 full-time position until March 31, 2027, with possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance

Ā
Reporting toĀ the Regional Settlement Coordinator, theĀ Community Connections OfficerĀ is primarily responsibleĀ for, but not limited to,Ā planning,Ā organizingĀ andĀ facilitatingĀ community-based programs,Ā activitiesĀ and volunteer-led projects to provide newcomers with the opportunity to engage with the local community.Ā Ā

Roles and Responsibilities:Ā
- Identify,Ā maintain, and build community partnerships to support newcomers and their families as they settle and integrate into the local communityĀ
- Deliver the Canada Connects and Community Connections ProgramĀ
- In collaboration with the Regional Settlement Coordinator,Ā recruit, train, and manage volunteers involved in programming in their respective regionsĀ
- In collaboration with the Regional Settlement Coordinator, deliver orientation and professional development sessions for volunteers in their respective regionsĀ
- Identity funding opportunities andĀ assistĀ in preparing proposals to mark key events (e.g., Canada Day, Multiculturalism Day/Week, Black History Month, etc.)Ā Ā
- Attend, organize, and deliver social, cultural, recreational and community events to support newcomers' and their familiesā community integrationĀ Ā
- Provide guidance and support to newcomer children and youth attendingĀ schoolĀ Ā
- ImplementĀ developed strategies for supports to newcomer children experiencing transitional issues adjusting to life in CanadaĀ Ā
- Provide youth and young adults with guidance on managing their educational transition planĀ Ā
- Facilitate the delivery of various ESL-focused school activities, as required or necessaryĀ
- Remain abreast of current volunteer resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gapsĀ Ā
- EnsureĀ timelyĀ entry of program and statistical data intoĀ NewOrgĀ to ensure funder complianceĀ Ā
- Participate in staff meetings, committees, boards, working groups,Ā conferencesĀ and professional learning, asĀ requiredĀ or directedĀ Ā
- EnsureĀ program activities are delivered in a manner consistent with a trauma informed approachĀ Ā
- Provide support andĀ assistanceĀ to the Regional Settlement Coordinator on the following, as necessary:Ā Ā
- Conduct needs assessments with children and youth and develop strategies for supportĀ Ā
- Deliver newcomer orientations to, and link families to resourcesĀ within, the NLESD/NLFSD systemĀ
- Collaborate with other employees, teachers, school administrators, volunteers, and stakeholders to helpĀ identifyĀ and resolve any settlement-integration issuesĀ
- Promote and support the Private Sponsorship Program, as required or necessaryĀ

Qualifications and Experience:Ā
- Bachelorās degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, or Humanities with a minimum of three yearsā relevant experience or any combination of equivalent experience and educationĀ Ā
- Ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders, including volunteersĀ Ā
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (both written and verbal) skillsĀ
- Demonstrated relationship-building and community connections skillsĀ
- Possess cultural humility in working with a diverse client and employee groupĀ Ā
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environmentĀ Ā
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteĀ
- Ability to speak a second language an assetĀ
- Experience working with volunteers will be an assetĀ
- Experience working in the non-profit sector will be an assetĀ

Conditions of Employment:Ā
- Legal authorization to work in CanadaĀ Ā
- Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)Ā
- Valid class 5 NL driverās license and daily access to a reliable vehicle is required
- Some travel requiredĀ
- Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland ConstabularyĀ
