Job Description

The Lighting Artist will work next to art direction and art teams to provide lighting solution to environments as well as characters and other important assets. With big impact on performance and gameplay, the lighting artist will also have be responsible for lighting optimizations as well as working with level designers to ensure the best gameplay experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop artistically compelling, high-quality lighting and general visual moods across a variety of scenarios
  • Generate realistic, high-quality skybox textures using 3D or specialized software
  • Work collaboratively and maintain constant communication with other stakeholders to ensure artistic vision and technical goals are met
  • Optimize lighting setups to fit within technical budgets while an aspirational visual bar

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of industry experience in Games or Film generating high-quality final lighting
  • Excellent technical understanding of how real-time and pre-rendered lighting solutions work
  • Thorough understanding of visual arts fundamentals, including composition, contrast, and color theory
  • Competency in foundational 3D modeling and texturing
  • Highly organized with a consistent and efficient working methodology
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
  • Solid understanding of game development technical budgets and performance optimization techniques is desired

 Nice to have:

  • Experience in character and/or vehicle lighting is a plus
  • Experience with lighting tools scripting is a plus
