Job Description

Chandos is growing across Canada, and we’re looking for a HR Advisor - Field. Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Business Partnering, this role provides hands‑on, operational HR support for the hourly craft workforce, with a strong focus on workforce planning, labour deployment, and employee experience in support of construction operations and project delivery. This role plays a key part in enabling people practices that align with operational priorities, safety requirements, and project timelines.

Working closely with Construction Leadership and Superintendents, the HR Advisor supports rolling manpower forecasts, workforce movements, performance management, recruitment, and employee lifecycle activities across active and upcoming projects. As a trusted and visible HR presence in the field, this role ensures consistent people practices, clear communication, and a supported and engaged craft workforce that contributes to Chandos’ performance and growth.

  • Provide hands‑on, operational HR advisory support across the hourly craft workforce employee lifecycle, ensuring people practices directly enable safe, efficient project execution and operational continuity.
  • Partner with Superintendents and Construction Leadership to support workforce planning, rolling manpower forecasts, and labour deployment for active and upcoming projects.

  • Serve as the primary, trusted HR point of contact for craft workers and site leaders, providing guidance on employee experience, workforce matters, and HR policies within a field environment.

  • Coordinate and track workforce movements, project assignments, and availability, applying judgement to balance operational priorities while ensuring timely, accurate communication to field teams and internal stakeholders.

  • Support performance management by partnering with Superintendents and Construction Leadership to address performance concerns, reinforce accountability, and support employee development through consistent practices and documentation.

  • Lead and support onboarding, recruitment coordination, and offboarding for field roles, ensuring smooth, compliant transitions throughout the employee lifecycle.

  • Strengthen skilled trades talent pipelines by representing Chandos at career fairs and working with community and workforce development partners.

  • Maintain a visible HR presence on project sites, building strong relationships and ensuring field employees feel informed, supported, and connected to the organization.

  • Contribute to field engagement and culture‑building initiatives through support of employee events, town halls, and community and social programs.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, workforce operations, or people‑focused roles supporting operational, field‑based, or project‑driven environments. Experience supporting construction, skilled trades, or craft workforces is a strong asset.

  • Working knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and applicable employment legislation, with the ability to apply them practically and consistently in a fast‑paced, operational setting.

  • Experience supporting workforce scheduling, manpower planning, or labour coordination in environments with shifting priorities, tight timelines, and changing workforce demands.
  • Experience supporting full‑cycle or field‑based recruitment (screening, interview coordination, onboarding, and workforce mobilization) is considered an asset, particularly in construction, trades, or project‑based environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner directly with frontline leaders and field employees, including supporting performance management, employee lifecycle activities, and workforce-related decision‑making.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing demands, adapt to frequent changes, and maintain accuracy under pressure.

  • Clear, confident, and professional communication skills, with the credibility to engage effectively

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfort working with HR systems, workforce data, and reporting tools.

  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, sound judgement, and attention to detail.
