About this role

Under direct supervision and in collaboration with Orthoptist and Ophthalmic Assistant. Measure fit and adapt lenes and frames for clients according to written optical prescription or specifications. Assists patients and customers with the choice of frames: choose eyewear to best fit their budgetary requirements. Obtain and review medical history and/or records from patient’s current lens prescriptions, when necessary, use lensometers. Develop professional business relationships with other associates and doctors. Experience with calculating charges, insurance discounts, and payments preferred. Certification by a nationally0reconzied opticianry association as an optician not required but preferred.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Experience

1 year Optician experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of techniques to measure the patient’s visual acuity and ocular motility.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, ocular disease and ocular emergencies required.
  • Skill in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to administer eye drops, ointments, etc.

Licensures, Certifications

Certification by a nationally0reconzied opticianry association as an optician not required but preferred. Obtain within first year of employment.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to certain distasteful patient care activities and communicable diseases is moderate. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists Ophthalmologist in selection of appropriate contact lens to match patient needs.
  • Instructs patient on proper insertion and removal techniques and how to successfully care for their lenses.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of all contact lenses to avoid shortages of particular prescriptions.  Keeps inventory of all disinfectants and daily cleaners.
  • Enters patient data in computer.  Creates, updates and files patient charts.
  • Maintains weekly log of cash receipts and makes daily deposits to cashier.

Pay Range

$17.35 - $26.36

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
